MG MGA - Gas leak

Hi people;
Every time, after a run, when I stick a finger beneath the banjo bolt/fitting on either end of the gas line connection between the 2 float bowl chambers, I come up with a little bit of gas on my finger. Not much; just a little bit.
The 4 round seals are new. The bolts are tightened down sufficiently without being maniacal about it. The surfaces involved are smooth w/out nicks or burrs.
Any insights for a fix? Has anyone come across a sealing compound of some sort that would fit the bill?
Thanks.

L.R. I've found these banjos to be very prone to leaking on mine. Tightened up with brand new fibre washers, they are fine, but when I undo them to clean the fuel screens and then re-assemble them, they seep as you describe. It seems to me that it requires new fibre washers every time they come apart in order to keep them dry. Anybody else had this?
Lindsay Sampford

Yes. I had the same problem
In the end, from advice from someone on this forum I think, I put a lot of force on the spanner (and I mean enough to make me nervous that I would do some damage!), and that sorted it. But if you damage the carbs, you wont thank me, so its up to you!

Think I'll settle for replacing the washers each time Graham! It seems to me that petrol hardens fibre washers to the point where they lose their ability to seal. They are nearly as hard as metal after a spell in the banjo unions.

That's scary Graham, only 8 months ago and I don't remember it! Better get my room at the nursing home booked!

Thanks; I'll put new fiber washers on my list.

I found that I had to double up on the fibre washers. Seems that the washers that are available now are not quite as thick. So the bolt was bottoming out before applying enough clamping force.

Lindsay,
Good idea. Can I have your car then?
