MG MGA - gauge bulb holder needed

I need a bulb holder for the oil/temp gauge. I don't find bulb holders available separately from the usual suppliers. The SPL lists a unique part number for the petrol and oil/temp gauge bulb holders, but I tried a couple of the other holders from other gauges and they fit fine. I could use one of the plastic holders on my new harness, but if I can get an original it would use the same screw type bulb. If anyone has a useable one they are willing to give up, please email with condition and cost.

Thanks!

Do you have a picture? Is it connected to the wiring harness?

If you mean the bulb fixing with the claws I have a pile of originals - I always salvage the good ones when rewiring a car

Dominic, yes, the metal holder with the claw-like end that presses into the circular holder that is part of the gauge bracket. The bulb screws into this.

SD, yes, the bulb holder has a lead coming from the back that is part of the harness.

I've got a bunch of those too but there off the harness. I need a picture to dig one out.

To get the originals off the harness you have to push the wire out of the front of the connector and unsolder the brass ferrule on the end of the wire. If you cut them off the old harness, keep the stub wire to do this when you reuse them later.

I keep the originals because the modern ones will hold a standard filament bulb, bust most LED screw threads seem to be a fraction smaller and they don't stay in the socket.

Are you sure you need just one bulb holder? Perhaps you need more for all the other lamps?

Dave, I only need one. I have the others and have tested the bulbs, all work ok. As Dominic says, I would like to get one with a couple of inches of the harness attached, then it can be joined to the wire from the new harness.

SD, the link from Dominic's last post shows what the bulb holder looks like. One from any of the gauges will work, they all seem to be the same.

SD, you have email.

Thanks, George

Ill send it out tomorrow... Help some one out on here in the future...if you can.

That's good enough for me :-)

They said you should see it Friday!

The length of the wire is not important. The only reason to save a bit of wire is to save the end piece on it. To keep from adding a splice in the wire I unsolder the end and put it on the new wire harness.

Thanks Steve!
