MG MGA - Grill piping

Does the piping for the Grill have the large bead outside or in?

Outside.

Glue it to the grill frame first with contact adhesive. it will make fitting it a lot easier. The piping should stop at the studs in the frame at the bottom, i.e., there is a gap of about 6" at the bottom.

Thanks Peter: Was wondering how I was going to hold the piping and bolt it together all at once

The gap at the bottom should be closer to 12", now that I have actually looked at one of our cars!

Well, you learn something new each day on the forum. I never knew that the trim did not go all the way round! Thanks for that little bit of knowledge. I just looked in Clausager and it is there in black and white - and I thought I had read the book cover to cover. It actually says (page 26): "The piping was 48" long, with approximately 2in showing each side at the bottom of the grill frame."

The grill is 22" wide at the bottom, so that would make the gap about 18".

Just like Peter said above, the MGA Holland Register's Concours Specifications says this about grille piping - "Grille piping should terminate underneath grill in line with each of the 2 small chrome bolts."
