MG MGA - Heating Copper Washers
I have three new copper washers to use on the Banjo fitting for the clutch on the back of the M/C ....I was told I need to heat the copper washers up and then cool them in order make them seat properly.....is the accurate..?

Not if they are new. Should already be annealed.

Heat copper to glowing red, then quench it in water to anneal. Easy if you have a propane torch. Don't burn your garage down. JIM in NH

Jim, To anneal, you heat and cool naturally. Heat and quench is to harden the copper. If you are not sure if it has already been done, it's no problem to re-anneal an already annealed washer. Paddy

Paddy, Jim is right, did this quite often when I was in business... Siggi

can acutally be either...but quenching is faster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annealing_%28metallurgy%29 JIM in NH
