MG MGA - Help please identifying this fastener

After a 900 mile trip two weeks ago, I parked the A in the garage. Took it out today and found this on the floor. It's been 10 years since I did the restoration and I just can't remember where I used them,

Don't they hold the rubber door buffers on?

Caged nut from the door lock - set in the shut pillar?

That is the rubber door buffer retaining tapping plate. Slides into the formed rubber buffer which is then slid into the space provided at the edge of the "B" pillar. A 10-32 screw holding the ass'y passes thru the forward face of the pillar shut panel. Moss #470-490

Yes! The caged nut that fits into the pocket in the rubber door buffer!

The passenger door is missing the lower bumper, so it all makes sense, I have a spare somewhere, so this mystery is solved!

Thanks to you all for the rapid responses!

Yes, it is the tapping plate for MGA door buffers.

Original parts were steel and zinc plated I think. Current replacement parts (at least from Moss) are aluminum. Mating dissimilar materials pretty much guarantees the screws cannot be removed several years later (due to galvanic corrosion). BTDT, royal pain. I used the Moss part as a template and made my own parts from steel. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/body/bd210.htm

Use an anti-seize paste on the threads to allow dis-assembly in the future.
MAndrus

I use anti-seize on everything, but it commonly doesn't work with galvanic corrosion.

Hahahahaa! MAndrus!
