MG MGA - hood/bonnet stuck closed

I have heard horror stories of the hood being stuck closed and owners having to cut through the grill or try prying the hood open thus ruining the paint. I read of an owner using small pieces of gas line hose into which he installed small copper pipes the size of the grill attachment bolts. These the glued to the bolt holes in the frame. Then he reversed the attachment bolts on the top of the grill to enter from the bottom. This provided "studs" so that the reversed grill bolts could slide into the gas hose providing support to the top of the grill. If needed the grill could then be removed by removing the grill's three bottom bolts and sliding the grill out of the gas line supports.
I tried this approach but was unable to get a snug fit between the body and the grill. Has anyone come up with a better solution. I am about to have my roadster repainted and fear that my newly painted hood/bonnet will be marred by a stuck hood.

Steve Giles was the first I know of to do this. Check out his website http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/Radiator%20Grill%20Quick%20Release.htm

It is straightforward and well worth the minimum effort. My top fixing are effectively just pegs and the bottom fixing are bolts from underneath.

I don't know if this will help but one of my cars was doing this I welded a washer on to a steel rod. I was able to reach the washer threw the slats in the grill and hook the washer onto the point of the hood pin, moss part 470-620. While someone is hooding the hood latch out, hook the pin and pull on it and the hood will pop. It worked for me every time.

My link not working on my computer. I think I may need to rework it. Try this TINY link to the URL that Jim posted: http://tinyurl.com/hjdqbmr
