MG MGA - Judson Part... Dominic?

Dominic,
Have you seen the part Judson on ebay 271754204837
I presume that finding the missing parts would be difficult?

I can see from the tag it is a TR Judson Unit. To be used on the MGA, you will need a oiler in a jar unit or the valve cover made for the MGA, The carb is missing and an New intake manifold would be needed. Dominic has plans to build a new intake. The pulleys to the engine would be needed. There is a rebuilder on your side of the pond I believe in Belgium or George Folchi in the USA. George will have the pulleys and if you are lucky some spare parts. You can find him or the other person in the archives.

you cannot modify this to match an MGA engine, because the TR3 mounts the carbs on the other side of the engine, so you would also need a cross flow head, and then there would be lots of other issues, predominantly space, to solve, as the Judson would t hen be in the place where the Dynamo usually is....

It doesn't seem to be missing many parts, so would be a bargain for a TR3 or TR4 owner.

I expect the inlet manifold might need to be cut and welded to fit, but otherwise would it fit on an A with a crossflow head?

I think it would be signicantly easier to start from scratch with the manifolds. Also, you have to solve the issue that the generator sits where the Judson will have to go, so how can you mount that on the other side of the engine. Getting belts sorted will also be an issue, as well as having enough space in the right place for the tensioner arm. by the time you have bought and sorted a cross flow head, sourcing the other bits you will need (crank pulley, radiator spacers, carb (I have a spare one for sale) and oiler, and done all the other welding and trial and error fitting, you would be better buying the correct kit

if you want a Judson for an MGA, then I know of one for sale in OZ at the moment.

Thank you all; most helpful. Major repairs under way, so no spare cash now. Shane

Thanks Dominic, I already have the crossflow head so it was interesting to hear your comments. the twin SUs are looking pretty good at the moment!
