MG MGA - Judson Supercharger on Ebay

Hi guys!

I just saw there is a Judson supercharger on ebay that may be of interest to one of you guys!
The issue is that it is in pieces and not sure if it can be made right.
Maybe Dominic, the Supercharger expert has an idea of how much it would take to put it right.

I may be interested in this upgrade someday but I don't see myself with enough knowledge at the moment to attack such a project.

Enjoy!

That one looks to be fairly complete, and will probably want complete new seals and bearings, but nothing major is missing apart from the valve cover oiler, which can be substituted with a standard MMO or Amco oiler.

I would always recommend sending it to George Folchi, as he does a super job, and can supply most of the missing bits.

For a guide on how much these go for look on my site here

(just did an upload of a good few updates, and there are a few niggles to iron out). For the 2010 sales $500 was a buy it now bargain that I snapped up. the $1200 one was sold privately where a trade that I acted as a go-between. On recent trends this one will be worth about $1000 I guess, but it is Christmas, and it is always a bit uncertain. As you can see these don't come along very often.

A rebuild by George will set you back at least 1000 US if there are only small parts missing , and there is always a waiting list of a good few months. Although these units are hard to find, they are not in the least bit complex to work on once you figure out how they go together.

Lots of extra info here on the carb (new page) http://clancy.ch/Holley_Carb.html

And general information here

As far as I know that's the most comprehensive source of Judson MGA information on the web......

Interesting stuff!

I think I am not financially ready to take the step yet...but I find it fascinating.

I wonder what is so expensive about George's rebuild? is it mainly labour or parts?
You said it is easy to work on, so it is possible to rebuilt one of these on our own? is it much more difficult than rebuilding other components?

I think for me I would need to install a 5speed transmission before I could justify this toy!

Thanks for the info. Dominic!

When you get a unit back from George, it's like a brand new unit.

The one at 220712665447 on ebay is now up for the third time. It is still missing a part made of unobtanium: The idler arm. It is not usable without that piece, which tensions the belts. He's also added a standard aluminium valve cover in an attempt to fool the less well informed. It's not worth what he is asking, and just three weeks ago he was asking 1950 without the $50 valve cover!

Well the seller on that one claims to have found the other pieces (not the valve cover) and has done a deal with someone in the UK for the full $2500 (including shipping to the UK, which will set him back about $400)

Was it anyone on here who bought it?

I asked about those other parts and the seller said they existed but would not send me pictures of them. Made me skeptical.
