MG MGA - main bearing cap nuts

In this pile-o-parts, I have found the main bearing cap studs & nuts. The nuts are nylon lined which sez to me these are aftermarket nuts. Someone clue me in to, I can't ever imagine re-using these over again for fear of working loose ? Thx Curt

Definitely not. Buy new.

I was amazed that they really use nylocs..but they do. New ones are mandatory IMO.

It's a long time since I did mine but I thought I remembered these being castellated and wired but no, AB is right. The BMC part no. is LNN208 which, decoded, means Nyloc, unplated, 1/2", UNF. In addition they also use a spring washer.......................Mike

Thanks all that took the time to answer, much appreciated. I did take a closer look at the studs last nite, they are NOT drilled for wire. That means, I guess, that they did actually use nylon inserted nuts in the ass'y process at the factory. Mike- no spring washers were found in the boxes but you can be sure I will use correct lock washers for this application. Thanks again all. Curt

I didn't use spring washers. I was worried that one might break. I just used a high tensile flat washer.

To my knowledge, the factory did use castle nuts and split pins. If my memory is correct then yours are aftermarket.
