MG MGA - MG Show and Spares Day

For those of us in the London area there is an MG Show and Spares day at Sandown Park Racecourse at Esher, Surrey this Sunday: http://mg-show.co.uk/

Hi Steve,
I hope no one looks at the FAQ's on that web site as it gives directions to Stoneleigh! I am going to Sandown, are you? If so i'll bring a paperback you might find interesting.

Yes now on the agenda. Not "50 Shades of Grey" I hope.

If you can find a right front wire wheel hub, fine thread, for an MGA, at the price is "reasonable" I will buy it from you. Reasonable price ..$50.00- $75.00 Can.

Just got back. Thanks for the book Colin. We both agreed it was a poor show. Less than 25% of the number of stalls than the equivalent Stoneleigh show in February. The few second hand parts stands were almost totally MGB and MGF. No MGA hubs for Gordon. Won't go next year - if they hold it.

We missed each other again Steve. You see we don't get much in the way of shows down here in the south for MG's and agree it could never approach Stoneleigh's size.
Its been quite a few years since the last show was held here, I'm hoping people might be more ready for it next year and more stallholders turn up. I know Sandown Park make extortionate charges for its hire which has killed other shows here. I have a special liking for this show as its where I found my "A" in '97...

It makes you wonder if the exhibition company did any market research. It was only a month since the biggest classic car spares autojumble in the UK was held 60 miles further south. The cost for that weekend for the traders, most of whom come from the Midlands, must have been significant. I cannot imagine much enthusiasm from them for another journey south so soon, with the added overnight costs of Surrey accommodation. Also, most owners are thinking about laying their cars up for a few months and giving the hobby a break. Spares are probably not top of their lists. Compare all this to Stoneleigh in the Midlands in mid to late February. Few travel costs for the majority of the vendors and the classic car owners just starting to think about the new season and jobs to be done.

I would be surprised if the Sandown show lasts much longer.

I've never been to Sandown and probably won't bother, judging by your comments.

I did get a mailshot from the organisers, but I didn't think it would be cost effective.

I've had a stall at Stoneleigh a few times - mainly B and Midget stuff - and even that struggles to pay for itself.

Not the best organised of shows.I organised Midget & Sprite stand and did not receive passes until the wednesday before the show. The show closed at about 1530hrs as traders were trying to escape. The organisers failed to give notice that set up could be done on the sunday morning as well as the saturday afternoon. There was no one to give us direction on the Saturday and had we known of the ability to set up on the Sunday morn three of us could have saved on hotel bills. Next year? Forget it!
