MG MGA - MGA Early LJ23 Jacks

Is there a possibility that our theories on the changeover point from the Shelley LJ23 to the King Dick B1077 could be incorrect? The current information that I have been given is that the changeover was during early 1500 production, perhaps during 1957.

I have just been contacted by a Swiss Twin Cam Coupe (1959) owner who advises me that he has found a Shelley LJ23 (cast as 1959) in his car.

I am in correspondence with him to ascertain if this could be original equipment or perhaps a previous owner's attempt to get a date-related jack for his car. I am inclined to suspect the latter, but just as interesting (for me) is that until now the latest date stamp I have found on an LJ23 is 1957.

Can other Twin Cam owners tell me what original jack they have please?

Steve,
I have that jack in my '56 roadster.

Can you tell me your chassis number? I (we) are trying to narrow down the switch over chassis number to the King Dick.

I would also like to hear from any 1500 (early-ish) owners who have the King Dick as original. That will also help narrow down the band.

Steve,
Chassis number HDR33/18273.

Thanks Peter. I will record that number in my database if that's ok, as a starters for narrowing down the changeover point.

If anyone else can supply me with a 1500 chassis number that has an original King Dick I will have a band to start narrowing down.

I may have found another original 1500 with an LJ23. It was written up in Safety Fast in July 2012. If all the detail is correct then chassis number 46296 (a 1958 red Coupe with one lady owner from new) also had the LJ23. However, this relatively late 1500 find would appear to be at odds with the previous understanding of the jack being issued to 'early' 1500s.

Nevertheless, it's the best information I have at the moment. It also makes my opening post about a 1959 Twin Cam with the same jack possibly correct.
