MG MGA - MGA GB Badge

This may be a minor issue but I'm soon to set off with a car club group to the Le Mans Classic and I'm scratching my head to come up with a neat solution for the mandatory GB rear badge. Don't want to stick anything on to the nice cellulose, nor make an abortion of a permanent badge either. Have tried a Halfords full regulation size magnetic badge but hardly magnetic at all on my steel bodywork - possibly due to thick paint. Perhaps some sort of easily removable badge? Anyone got an idea or nice picture they have done?

The new number plates come with the GB symbol down the side.

Not sure if you can just put on one plastic number plate on the back.

Cheers
Mark.

Are you sure that it is still required. I suspect you may find the rules have changed, and they are not obligatory any more.

It used to be an MOT failure in Switzerland if you did not have a CH sticker on the back of the car. Now it isn't, and no-one bothers with them any more, and we drive across into France regularly, especially in the border areas. Also on all the cars coming from all over Europe that we see here, almost none have a country sticker.

I believe it is required if you do not have one on the number plate as Mark suggested. One tip is to smear some vaseline on the paint and wipe before fitting the self adhesive GB sticker. This makes for easy removal (I've tried it before and it does work). You can also use the same method to stick to the chrome on the bumper. Another option is to bolt a piece of flat plate behind the bumper iron to stick the badge to, but that requires a bit more work. Failing all that just take a chance, you're unlikely to be stopped and if you are, just say Dominic said it would be OK! LOL.

Thanks guys. I'm now definitely wondering whether to bother at all!

Bruce,

You can buy a magnetic one on the ferry for about £3, they are a blue and yellow rectangle with rounded ends and I find they work well.

Fix it to the bumper or rear valence, not the bootlid as its aluminium.

Bon Voyage

According to the AA you need a GB plate in EU countries if you don't have the latest style number plate with the integral GB badge.
See http://www.aatravelshop.com/store/touring/aa-magnetic-gb-plate
Their magnetic plate is £3.99.

However I have been to France with no badge on a number of occasions with no problems. Its obvious its a UK car after all - MG, RHD, strange number plate etc.
