MG MGA - MGA hardtop wanted

Hi,
MGA hardtop urgently required, aluminium type preferred. Willing to pay good price for the right one.

Hi Dominic,
Yes, I've called Bob - he's away at the moment so waiting for him to call back.

Cheers,

Phil, are you interested in one for restoration? I bought a wheel from a guy today and when I collected it he showed me one he had for sale. He is near Horsham. I believe it was an aluminium one. I have no connection to the seller.

Do you plan to use the Hardtop very often?

I always wanted an original hardtop because I think they look great, in fact I came very close to buying one from Dominic but by the time I had made my mind up to call him, he had already sold it.

In hindsight I think I did the right thing, I really dont like driving my car with the soft top up because, being tall in the seat I can see almost nothing out of the side screens.

The top of the side screens are exactly at my eye level which means that the furthest I can see through them without ducking down are the kerbs at the edge of the road.

So I tend to drive with the soft top up as little as possible.

I am certain that for the same reasons, if had bought a hard top, I would probably have never used it and it would still be stored unused up in the garage roof space.

Colyn. Couldn't agree more. Always wanted one as they looked great and I thought it would be a useful weather protection. In reality, when I bought one, at great cost, didn't really care much for driving with it on and it remained predominantly strung up in the garage roof for ages until selling it on. You can't beat open top driving and occasional soft top up if bad weather absolutely dictates, imho.

I don't use mine often, but enjoy it when I do. If the weather warrants the top, then I usually use the workaday car. But I bought the VDP hardtop cheap and already had a buyer for the fiberglass one I had before. I seldom drive with side screens, even though I have the correct ones for the top and am in the process of renovating these.

As I also have a racing screen, I will use my second set of sidescreens (which have cracked corners) to make a pair of cut down side screens to match the height of the racing screen. I also don't use the racing screen a lot unless I can guarantee the weather is gong to stay nice- and that takes about the same time to mount as the hardtop.
