MG MGA - MGA on TV

Good to see an MGA participating in "The Outcast" on BBC tv last night. When I was looking to buy an A I believe that one was for sale as the seller mentioned it featuring in a tv series.
It was in good company - Jaguar XK and a Ford Consul featured too.
Graeme Williams

I saw it too Graeme, it looked a really nice attractive car with a similarly attractive actress driving it.
It certainly helped pass the time.

I wouldnt normally get to see any "histerical" period dramas but it was on tv as I waited for a few hours in my local casualty department for some treatment to my badly scalded hand.

No, not the normal MGA induced injury, but just a mishap with a pan of boiling water. :-(

Oh dear Colyn! Hope the hand is ok now. And you are back from casualty already? Queues must be shorter now it's Summer. Or had you been waiting long enough to see Part 1 the previous week?
Graeme Williams

Im hoping that I will be able to use it by the time we get to MGA Day, its pretty bad and I have to go to the burns unit tomorrow where I will find out if it needs a skin graft or not.

Are you going to MGA Day? It should be a really big event this 60th anniversary year and I am really looking forward to it. I will be there hopefully in the MGA but if I cant drive it, in my normal road car being chauffeur driven.

Colyn

PS email me if you would like some more info about your cooling fan idea.
c firth

Yes - looked a nice car - anyone know who's it is? Sounds a nasty scald Colyn - hope it heals quickly without a graft and you are driving again soon.
Cam Cunningham

Caught this on IPlayer. She seemed to have surprisingly good wireless reception despite the aerial being retracted (perhaps having the wipers pointing that way at rest enhanced reception?) Anyway, good to see Alamo Beige (or similar) resurfacing.
D Smith

Mr Smith, your tele colour must be up the creek - it was primrose yellow!
(It is currently for sale and both the filming and the colour are noted in the ad.)
Graeme Williams

My MGA was Alamo Beige, aka Salmon Pink, but I believe is now white( probably just as well really).776 CLU are you out there?
M Blencowe

On the hospital waiting room tv that I was watching I would have said it was OEW!

G,
Yes, you are right: (i) only a male could get a colour so badly wrong and then (ii) even attempt to hide behind "(or similar)" - it just isn't.
Lucky girl (in the story) though, it must have been pretty much brand new (summer time, 1600, 1959 tax disc).

THis is the car in question I believe: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C395739#

There was a purchase of a "new" Jag XK in the story line at the same time as the MGA was about. The Jag in question I think was an XK140 as it had a split screen. Wouldn't that have been "new" at least 3 or 4 years before the MGA?
Graeme Williams

Well I got the colour completely wrong as I thought that it was ivory with green trim which looked fantastic. We had a TA in that combination until I sold it 4 years ago to purchase my current MGA (fantastic!).

However, the colours seemed incorrect and I had no reference books to hand to check it out. When I followed Graeme's link it was of course as he described and the trim was black.

TV and colour umm perhaps there is a subtle change when you watch a programme on catch up!

Well spotted though but still a lovely car though the registration plates convinced me that it was an import. Agree on the Jag though how long were XK140's in production for?

Fascinating thread nonetheless and the programme though disturbing was a good watch and we sat down for 3 hours on a nasty wet night watching it. Sad eh!

All the best

Jerry
Jerry Birkbeck

Well Jerry, at least you didn't nod off halfway through only to be told by that, "you missed a car like ours in that!" And would have added "Primrose yellow too"
Graeme Williams

Also a red 'A' on Carol Klyne's gardening programme yesterday.
Nigel Munford

Yep,FSK 444,whoever's that is.And no,I'm not interested in the gardening stuff except that she called me in to see what she thought was an AH3000.Not that far of as a guess.
