MG MGA - MGA Register National MGA Day
I have just seen this is taking place at Upton House, Banbury on 8th August. I am relatively new to the MGA world. Is this a "must attend" event? |
Graham M V |
Its a great event Graham, you get to see some of the best MGAs around and meet some great people. My only problem is that there are just too many people to talk too and just not enough time to look at the cars I want to see. Not a bad problem for an Mga fan! The MGA day is usually held at an interesting venue as well so if your passenger is not quite as MGA fixated, then there will be something else to entertain them. I was planning to be there this year too but the change of date unfortunately means that I now will be out of the country and have to miss it. Colyn |

I will be there!

Sounds good. I will definitely be there "so if your passenger is not quite as MGA fixated, then there will be something else to entertain them" - you've met my wife then! |

Someday I would like to hop the pond and do this too.

Afternoon I would be most grateful anyone could give me some more information about this event; approx. number of cars attending, cost of entry, times, details of trade stands present, photographs of previous events etc... I am looking at purchasing a MGA coupe and having driven one for my birthday the need is now increasing, especially having waited patently for over a year while undertaking research etc...I feel I need to buy and be done with it, and enjoy the car, it need not be totally perfect... Anything would be appreciated, as travel arrangements from Scotland need to be made soon... Kindest regards, Matthew. |

Matthew, for information about the MGA day E-mail this man jonathan.pollard@eu.panasonic.com The Safety Fast advert says "no need to book, please just turn up with your MGA". "Admission from £5.50, National Trust members free".

I was going to say that the problem with these type of meets is that everybody's car looks better than your own....then I saw mine (I think) in the foreground of Lindsay's picture. It dosn't look to bad ! |
Nigel Munford |
Just before someone accuses me of plagiarism, it wasn't my picture! I can't remember who took it, but it was from last year's MGA Day. |
Lindsay Sampford |
Just noticed your last post Graham, its a pity I wont be able to make the MGA day because it sounds like your wife and mine would get on just fine. She actually enjoys being in the car except for the fact that she cant speak above the exhaust noise when we are on the move. This means that the pressure to chat kind of builds up in her after a couple of hours or so of driving. So it is a real bonus for me when we go to an MGA event as she usually finds another female passenger to talk to with a similar problem and this leaves me free to talk "MGA" pretty much all day! Perfect! So yes, you will both really enjoy it! Colyn |
Colyn Firth |
Colyn, Ha ha! They would have got on great! No doubt a discussion about MGA's messing up their hair would have been a hot topic? |
Graham V |
colyn, Im very lucky that way, my wife does'nt talk to me much, in fact she sometimes calls me on the phone to ignore me lol, vin |

To all Thank you for the information and photographs, the event looks great although sadly this year I’ll not be attending, Management has other ideas for my birthday weekend. I cant complain what so ever as for her birthday, I hired an MGA and we toured aimlessly round the South of Scotland on fantastic b roads... I should say that we did base ourselves in a fancy Georgian mansion...although when we went to the local for some food in the evening, it just so happened to be the meeting point for the local classic car club and for that evening too, the assembly point for a bunch of visiting steam cars... I still don’t think she believed it was an unplanned and totally coincidental....!!! Tried to attach some picture of the tour...will try again another day... Many thanks again, Matthew. |

David How many MGAs were there? Looked quite a lot. Steve |

And another; it was in very nice condition, especially when you consider how far it has travelled in the last five years. Just goes to show that MGAs thrive on use! Incidently, in the previous picture, the "teddy boy" standing with my wife wasn't a real one, MGA day this year was an optional "period costume event"! ![]() |
Lindsay Sampford |
Steve Not sure what the official count was, but I would say 50+ MGAs, there was a lot of comings and goings, and a few B and Cs and other marques. |
D G Clark |
Yes, very enjoyable day and good weather. Saw lots of great cars and met lots of interesting people. But surprised that of those I asked, not one knew of this forum or had heard of Barney G.

That's not Dave Godwin's car, it's far too clean, and it's missing a mountain of luggage on the boot rack ! Seriously, Dave's car really looked the part when it was here, he wanted to wash it and we wouldn't let him. |

Again this year I missed the day... don't ask... Could someone post some photos of the twin cams that were there please? Anyone take any video I can put on youtube like my silverstone films? Cheers Mark |
Mark Hester |
Hi Graham, not suprised yjay people rn't aware, I know of a least 6 MGA's living close to me whose owners don't belong to clubs or have any contact with other MGA owners, the same goes for frogeyes again I know of at least a dozen living localy that fall into the same category, the chap that bought my red roadster has no real interest in the MGA anymore than any other old car he just uses it and enjoys it but it could have been a TR3 or anything. Mark, this Twin Cam was there, but these are pictures from last year's MGA Day.

Gordon Thats clearly the case. But they really miss out. |
Graham M V |
And a last one..

Lindsay The green car next to the twin cam in that last photo apparently won the award for best car last year |
Graham M V |
Does anyone know which car won best car this year? |
P BURCOMBE |
I missed out on Silverstone because of my move south. Now I am nearer the kids I got booked up for the weekend so missed out on this one. Bit cross with myself; need to sort out my priorities for 2011. Might move north again for a bit of peace and quiet! Steve |

PB, I didn't see the final decision but was talking earlier to the judge who thought he was inclined to give it to the navy blue coupe. Graham |
Graham M V |
I think I saw the shield at about 4pm on a light blue roadster on the LHS looking towards the house. It was only one that had the bonnet up most of the time. John |
