MG MGA - MGA Seatbelts

My roadster does not have seatbelts. Do people put them in or not..? If they do which one's do people recommend to be as unobtrusive as possible ?

I too would like to install seat belts on my A, but don't know which type will make a nice fit. I would also appreciate if someone can tell us of a good source. I will come to the fitting instructions later. Tks to all.

Hi I would go to Bob West he supplies the correct ones

Or Quickfit seat belts. They do the quick release MGB type which is much easier on upper mounting when puting the hood up and down. http://www.quickfitsbs.com/

Gordon & John, thank you both very much for the info. I will contact Bob West & Quickfit and decide on my choice.

Try Todd Clarke. He has all the fittings needed.

I have Todd's three point system in my car--not something you want to do after painting the car, as well as giving you a real "Chinese Fire-drill" in the rain.

I agree with David. I was fortunate that Barry Gannon was over from Australia when I wanted to do mine. Barry is a brilliant welding instructor and he went to enormous lengths to dissipate the heat from surrounding painted areas. You cannot be too careful with this modification or there will be tears.

Many seat belts are let down by the plating of the attachments. In this respect I've not seen any better than the Quickfit SBS belts mentioned by John above. All the items are chrome plated with the possible exception of the one in the top middle of the attached photo which may be bright nickel instead. They may not be the cheapest however...............Mike

If you use Todd Clarkes fittings (which are the same as the factory fittings), you can use the Securon 530 retractable belts (as used on MGBGT)...no mess with loose belts hanging around.

For about 80% of MGA's (except MK II’s) the lack of seat belt mounting points is the biggest problem.

Excluding the outside (chassis) mounting points for now and the top one also.

No one manufactures AHH6125 which is the original rear centre tunnel section "with centre seat belt mounts"

Plenty of companies make AHH5199 but despite asking them why they seem reluctant to add the captive nut essential for seat belt mounting.

Hence we have to buy the Todd Clarke kit and weld it in ourselves.

Even a company which offered an exchange program would be a welcome service.

Perhaps this posting will spur someone on to resolve this.

Cheers
Mark
