MG MGA - Mystery Seat ID Help

Hello
I am trying to identify the seats that came with a 1958 (actually a combination of many different years) MGA parts car. I was hoping these were the deluxe seats but I don't think so. My own internet searches for similar seats have come up blank. Does anyone recognize these seats? Thanks in advance. Tim

Based on the photos in Clausagers book that is a Deluxe seat

From the same book I would agree about the seat back but not the base/cushion/squab. The seat back frame certainly has the MGA geometry.

Sorry to disappoint but these are not de luxe seats. See Barney’s INT-114R.

Tim,
I can assure you that those seats are not MGA.
They belong to Triumph Spitfire. I am just finishing a seat restoration on my 1967 Triumph Spitfire and they are identical. Also, I own two MGA's - and their seats are not near that; the Deluxe seats do have some similarities, but if you look at the seat bottoms, the MGA does not have these components.
On another note, you may check a Triumph forum, since the seats you have, have frames that are very rare and could bring you some money. In fact, I searched for a year to finally locate one. These triumph seat frame backs are a solid piece and have tendency to bend over time and rust at the bottom causing problems.

Hi Eddie.
Thanks so much for the seat ID. Much appreciated!
I've looked for similar seats listed for sale to determine an asking price and found none. I did run across your post on a Triumph BBS looking for a single seat.
So, what do you feel would be a fair price per seat? Thanks again. Tim

Tim, price depends totally on condition!!
Check Moss catalogue for new seats price as a benchmark

Tim,
Peel back the vinyl seat cover from the bottom of the seat back frame and see if the metal back is still secure to the bottom frame. Usually you will find that some welding or repair will have to be done.
If all looks fairly well, I would ask $150 per seat (includes seat back and frame along with metal basket for bottom seat foam); in other words the complete seat and it looks like you have all the pieces. If the seat rails mounted to the MGA floor belong to these seats, include them. The buyer will probably be needing them as well.
So, again I would ask around $150 per seat plus shipping; if there is a lot of rust and repair in order, could come downward toward $100 per seat.
I was able to find a seat locally needing some repair and gave $100 without the rails. If asked, I believe these seats will fit the Triumph Spitfire 1964 thru early 1968 (the Mark 2 and 3 series)
Leave the old covers on the frames, since the purist may want to see how the new covers should be installed.
Last note, as the previous member noted, price depends on condition; also how badly one needs them. I don't recall a source for the entire new frames to match these. Remember, not too many older Spitfires out there, so when someone is looking, they generally will pay whatever you offer. Keep an eye on the want-ads.
Hope this helps,
Eddie

Given all that perhaps you are pleased that these are not CDL seats!
