MG MGA - Non standard drivers seat

Hi All,
Has anybody fitted non standard seats to a MGA coupe. I would like to fit something with more support and better with a racing harness. If so what seats.
Thanks

G/Day s.p. I fitted Cobra brand (English company?) seats many years ago BUT my car has been modified as you can see from the photo. They would fit, but maybe a tight fit without the severe modification.

These seats were originally velour covered but when that showed signs of wear I had them recovered in leather.

They are very comfortable, and, unlike the original seats, hold the body tight around the hips when cornering hard. Ask Steve Gyles about his drive, in this car, with me as white knuckled passenger, around the Australian GP track at Phillip Island -- 100mph + down the main straight!

I will post a new thread to tell the story of the roll-bar.

If you can find them these days... the seats of the Simca Rally 2 and Rally 3 will fit. Good luck to find them !

Seem to recall that Mark Dollimore was looking at the option of fitting MX5 seats.

I can vouch for the comfort of Barry's seats. I did not realise I was going that quickly down the straight, too busy watching ahead for the dipping corners on the the one and only lap we did, plus there was no way the Healeys and E-Types were going to get away!

I'm also interested in this subject (and will probably be more so after Monday's track day at Goodwood!).

Barry, what mods have you done (apart from the rear tonneau area modification)?

Can anyone confirm if the MX5 seats fit and if so what mods are required?

Chris.

The MX5 seats do fit, but it is an extremely tight fit. I had to modify (cut away) the outer cover of the seat back lever on each side. You could probably get away with doing this by raising the seat from the floor, but this really defeats the purpose.
I might add, that the seats I bought had headrest speakers included, so now good sound!

I read a thread from the other well known MGA forum that Holden supply narrow seats that may be suitable. Not my area of knowledge to make any comment but this is the link to their range: http://www.holden.co.uk/displayAgroups.asp?sg=2&pgcode=045&sgName=Hardware&pgName=Seats+%26+Seat+Belts

Chris, My car has been extensively modified over the years - my theory - based on the damage caused in the accident prior to my ownership - was "will never be an original so make it a bespoke".

MGB motor bored to 2000cc.
John Needham MGB close ratio gearbox.
Extractor exhaust. Oil cooler. 60 spoke wheels.
Koni adjustable hydraulic rear shockers.
Facit electric fuel pump.

I have re-located the battery to the boot, sealed and fixed the battery cover to the frame (no more dust on our country gravel roads). I dis-guarded the front bumper as it was beyond repair and hand formed a spoiler, fashioned a nudge bar from the leg of a steel office chair to carry the number plate and badges, powder coated the rear bumper as re-chroming was very costly at the time. The roll bar makes it safer.

A very personalized car, Barry.

Yes, at one stage I was considering the MX5 seats without the integral headrest. They are: a - hard to find at the right sort of money and condition and b - just a tad too wide.
I am still looking for alternatives to a fixed back bucket seat.

These seats would fit - Corbeau Sportsman Recliners (they tilt forward too) but are a bit pricey at circa £275 ea

My seats are still available from "Cobra Seats UK"

Look under 'Historic Seats' and 'Cobra Classic'.

They are fixed and do not tilt. Barry
