MG MGA - Parish Plastics MGA Hardtop

Does anyone have any experience with these ? I have come by one that is a bit tatty and whilst I haven't spent a huge amount of time with it, it looks like it will not fit very well.

Is it worth me trying to get a new rear Perspex screen (where on earth from..??)

Or would you advise me not to bother...?

Thanks
Aleks Stojanovic

In the 70's I had one for my E-Type and loved it. Given that this one is in need of work anyway, getting it to fit prior to paint of vinyl covering should be your first order of business.

If you are handy with fiberglass, you can make a mold from the original window and heat a new piece of plexi into it to make a new one. Make many if they come out good and sell them.

You can probably get a new window from the manufacturers as the tops are still in production: Web site www.smoothline.com

But personally I think they are pig ugly, and I have never seen one that fits properly. but I am spoilt having picked up a VDP hardtop restoration project a few years ago as a bargain!

My MGA came with a Parish top about 25 yeares ago, had it painted car color and use it during winters. Don't really care for any removable hardtop but it does fit nicely and adds comfort for cold weather driving. Marvin,ct

The Parish molds were purchased by (I think Fineline) and they are still in business. Most of the parts are still available. The tip will fit fin when pulled down by the two turnbuckles.

Try Smooth Line they are on the web.

dominic, that's a nice looking hardtop for sure. the roofline and rear window definitely have a superior style. what is a VDP restoration project? is VDP a manufacturer or where can one get this type?

It is an original aluminium hardtop - which were made by Vanden Plas.

Very hard to pick up - have been keeping an eye out for a while - and expect to dig very deep for one these days

Not so hard to find if you know where to look. Bob West had a few when I was last there three years ago. But as Aleks says, not at all cheap unless (like me) you get lucky. By the time I had restored it it cost me $us 2000, and by any account that is really a low price for one of these tops. It is always admired when it's on the car.
