MG MGA - Piping

I've seen a lot of comments about the problem of piping squirming out of place as fender bolts are snugged up.
I have yet to do this job, but has anyone tried using contact cement on one side to hold it in place?

Art,

I thought Barney had a page on the different types of wing piping over the years but unable to find it at present.

Basically the pipping Bob West sells is much thicker, than most suppliers, thus it says put when you bolt up the wings.

The cheap stuff as you say just squeezes out.

I have black piping on my "A" as are the pads under the tail-light plaths. it's from Metorubber. Lies very nicely. They may make a silver too, contact them for a sample.

Art, I got mine from Bob West, about four years ago. Went together well and has not discoloured as I have seen on some other products. Spend a little extra and you won't regret it. Cheers Duncan

The best advice that I received and it worked for me was to cut a small oval hole in the piping a little larger than the bolt and not an open ended scallop shape and also not to tighten the bolts too much. The piping I bought from Moss I had to throw away, it was nice and shiny but too soft and a slightly smaller section size than the original. I bought mine from Peter Wood years ago.

I returned mine recently to Moss along with a pile (6 part numbers) of other (in my view) sub standard stuff and just got a full refund.

Thanks all.
What about Todd Clarke's piping?

Art, I got my piping from Scarborough Faire and didn't have any issues with it squirming upwards. I also cut the holes all the way through the piping which makes inserting it easier. Some people think it's wider than the original but it sure hides large gaps.

The mistake that most owners make is to make the fender (ie mudguard) bolts too tight. I have been guilty of this! It is not necessary to make them super tight, they only need to keep the mudguard from falling off!
