MG MGA - Radiator cap.

I'm having no luck finding a "recovery" type, long reach, cap for a new radiator. The crappy cap supplied leaks as soon as the motor hots up and dumps the fluid.
What I would like is a cap that has the double seal (rubber) so it draws the fluid back from a holding tank I have fitted to the inner mudguard.

Any suppliers out there? Barry.

You can get the long reach coolant recovery type cap from NAPA:

Balkamp 703-1411 (7-psi)
Stant 10206 (7-psi)

Look at the part before you buy it to assure that it has the top seal. Many years ago (about 2001) it did not have the top seal, and the part was upgraded to include the top seal without changing the part number. It is possible some of the parts without the top seal might still be hanging around in old stock.

Are there any Balkamp or Stant suppliers in the UK?

Thanks Barney. Nigel asks -- "Are there any Balkamp or Stant suppliers in the UK?
Or Australia??

Well, I dunno, but it's like this. I believe Balkamp is a NAPA trade name, so that brand is likely only available through a NAPA store. It is commonly a hyphenated word, NAPA-Balkamp. So if you don't have a NAPA store available, you won't have Balkamp parts.

However, Stant is an independent manufacturer with Global manufacturing and sales. They are available in North America, Europe and eastern Asia (apparently not Australia). See manufacturing and sales locations here:

If that doesn't do it, I have just posted a new web page with about 65 cross reference numbers and almost 20 different car models that originally used this part. See here: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/cooling/cool_126.htm
If you start plugging some of those numbers into a search engine you may find your local suppliers.

A word of warning here. Most of the cross reference list came from the Stant web site. I suspect some of those parts may not have the top seal for coolant recovery. So if and when you think you may have found your desired part, ask that question before you buy it.

It's easy to make your own top seal from a small piece of rubbery sheet. No great dimensional constraints or failure consequences if it's not quite right first time.

I converted a non-top seal type with a rubber sheet as described by David. It worked well for many years until I changed it for a new cap with built in seal.
