MG MGA - Retainer- Door sealing strip

Greetings all,

Been a while since last on the BBS but I've gotten back on the coupe restoration project. Just finished installing the "furlex" door seal. I'm getting ready to screw on the stainless "retainer strip" that covers the lower threshhold section of the sealing rubber. Looking at in place, I'm now not certain if this gets screwed down through the carpet, or should I have afixed the retaining strip first then covered it with the frame rail carpet thus hding the screw heads? Thanks!

Picture? I cannot figure out where on the car you are referring to...? Is this an aftermarket part used to protect the sills from scuffs?

Robert, the stainless steel finishing strip fits on top of the carpet and over the inside edge of the door seal. It screws into the top of the frame rail with philips headed self tapping screws.

Jim,

This is a part unique to the coupe.

Thanks Andy!

Beautiful job! Where did you get yoru "furflex" door seal from. I bought mine from McGreagor but as is the case with most of these seals, it makes the door fit far too tightly and I have to slam it closed which I'm not a fan off. Clarke Spares has what he says is the only correct style of seal, but McGeagor said pretty much the same thing. I wnet with McGreagor's because it came in the correct Maroon color which no other supplier has available.

I bought the furlex seal from Clarke Spares. The photo shows it fitted plus a Stainless Steel threshold strip i installed to save the sill from scratches etc, from shoes.

Robert, the seal I got from Todd Clarke for my Roadster was 'correct' and works well. I don't know if the Coupe seal is the same.

Robert, I just checked my records and I did buy my door seals from Clarke Spares, cost $205, I told you they were expensive. If you look at his website you can see that they are fairly flat in cross section and as I said mine folded over in several locations because the gap between the door and opening is too tight even for the relatively flat cross section to go in between.

Hi this is a pic of my old coupe with original door seals still fitted, I did subsequently change them for Todd's seals which were identical to the originals
