MG MGA - RHD conversion

Hi

Anyone here knows what it takes to convert a 1957 from RHD to LHD? Believe the car is prepared for both but is there a complete kit for the conversion at a reasonable price, or must things be bought bit by bit? I guess that a LHD dash will be needed, but what about stearing rack, pedals etc. Can anything from the RHD version be reused?

Thanks in advance
Torben

Torben, there are far more people converting from LHD to RHD, so must be plenty of parts out there. I've done 7 conversions so far, and basically had to throw the LHD parts away! Parts needed are steering rack, dashboard, clutch pedal, accelerator pedal mechanism, dip switch bracket..can't think of anything else at the moment, but that's about it!

Torben,

For the conversion a copy of the factory Service Parts List is essential.
If you do not have a copy it can be downloaded from Barney Gaylord’s website.
It clearly shows all items which are different on LHD and RHD cars.
A sample is attached and it shows the different lengths of the drive cables for the speedometer and tachometer instruments.
In half an hour go can go through the whole book.

Torben,

Two more sample images to give the idea.

The easiest way may be to find someone in the UK doing the reverse and agree to do an exchange of all the bits.

Anyone on this site?

Mick...all that makes it a bit frightening..95% of it unnecessary for a conversion.

Hi all

Thank you so much for quick replies.
Thing is I'm looking at a car locally but its RHD and I would prefer to convert it if I end up buying it, which I don't know for sure yet.
But probably a good idea to look for the parts left over from conversions the other way around.

thanks again

Gary forgets the LHD hydraulic lines in his list, you need to move the MC across and reconnect it with the new lines to the slave and the four way brake line connector. The column firewall seals almost always need replacing, bellows too.
