MG MGA - road speed spreadsheet calculator

Does anyone have available a spreadsheet for calculating road speed for various engine rpm, gearbox and differential ratios and tyre sizes, preferably with a reference table that lists the various ratios and teeth numbers used on MGAs and related vehicles such as Magnettes and early MGBs?

Mike,

I have some spreadsheets on one of my websites:

http://www.angelfire.com/amiga/mga/index.html

Most common final drive ratios are 4.55 (common on Twin Cams with a close ratio gearbox), 4.3 on the 1500 and 1600 MK1, 4.1 on the 1600 MK11, and 3.9 on the MGB.
Remember the MGB has a different wheel size.

Mike,

My spreadsheets assume that you know the gear ratios but if you want teeth numbers for the MGA they are attached.
If you are using non-standard teeth numbers the ratios are easily calculated as shown.
If you want the close ratio gear teeth numbers and ratios I can post them.

Hi Mick
Please could I have a copy of the close ratio details too? I have The Birdcage A and would like to move 2nd closer to third so am curious what the factory settings may have been... Oh, it,s a Needam box.

Dave,

The gear teeth numbers for the close ratio gearbox are attached.

Mike, since you have the transmission ratios now you could use this calculator for almost any tire size and rear ratio, just plug in the numbers you want. http://www.f-body.org/gears/

Thanks Mick - Fantastic to have this information!
