MG MGA - Rubber weather seal

When fitting the trunk lid (boot), what is the proper location of the rubber seal? Is it installed on the boot lid edge, or is it placed into the channel that surrounds the boot opening on the body?

And, is the use of weather strip adhesive recommeded?

F, its installed in the body that the boot closes to. Use a good adhesive not affected by water or moisture. They come some times in containers with brushes in them. apply adhesive to seal and body, wait a short time and install into body. Tom

Thanks Tom I appreciate the info. Would you happen to know if a 1600 steel dash will fit a 1500 roadster?
F Valenzano

Fran,

All the dashes with fit but the MK II is different in the location of the turn signal Jewell.

I would recommend MacGregor for the boot seal. It goes in the channel.

Correct size and all. Expensive but correct. I used no adhesive on mine and have had no problems. Adhesive can cause trapped moisture leading to RUST.

Thanks Jim

Moss offers a rubber seal for around $15.00. That same part from Macgregor is nearly 3 times the cost.

Is there that much of a difference in quality and fit?
F Valenzano

Fran, apparently the Macgregor seal fits, whereas the Moss seal is too thick.

Jim, I am not aware of any difference on the MkII dashboard indicator jewel. I was sure mine are exactly the same as the 1500 and 1600. (except of course for the cover and lower trim!)

Barney - Thanks for the info. I should always check your site before asking. The hollow configuration of the Macgregor seal does make sense indeed.

BTW: This is a photo of the 1600 dash (stripped of vinyl),which I want to acquire for my 1500. To me ot looks as though the jewel is in the same location as my original dash

F Valenzano

That looks like a standard roadster dash to me (and would fit all roadster variants). It has the extra hole in the "windscreen washer push switch" position, as do almost all MGAs
