MG MGA - Sealing flex hose and front calliper joint

I am frustrated that I have finished the MkII recommissioning, but have a problem in getting the banjo bolt for the flex hose sealed - I have used new copper washers, new banjo bolts, new callipers and new hoses, but can't get the joint to stop weeping fluid. At least I have progress in that they are only weeping instead of a steady stream of fluid when I have the Eezibleed attached and pressurised. No pressure they stay dry, but after a drive they are again wet.

What is the max torque the thread can take?
Dominic Clancy

I would check that the thread in the new calipers and the new bolts is actually allowing the washers to be correctly clamped.

Fit the bolt to the caliper on its own and tighten down - measure the depth between bolt head and caliper and check it is less than the banjo depth.

I suspect the bolt is bottoming out before it clamps the banjo. Maybe add another washer and give it an extra tightening.

No - never add another washer. Fix the problem, don't create more leak points!

With the quality, or rather the lack of quality of replacement parts today can you check if the underside of the bolt head is in perfect contact when fitted without a washer.
I have seen bolts made in a not to be named country where the underside of the bolt head is not exactly 90 degrees to the thread.
Also the surface finish of the bolt and caliper mating surfaces.

Thanks to all

I think I will remove the banjo bolts, heat the washers and reanneal them, and take a millimetre off the banjo bolt to make sure it isn't bottoming out. Will report back on failure or success.....

I have two old banjo bolts that are 0.875 long. The callipers are new but if not NOS the female thread may be shallow.

IIRC the MGA hoses are flat at the ends, or should the banjo seating end have an angle?
Dominic Clancy

the answer is they should be flat - I have been sent the wrong hoses, now I have to work out where they came from to complain!
Dominic Clancy

Dominic, just put the hoses in a lathe and machine the end off flat.

With the correct hoses everything sealed immediately. The incorrect ones came from B&G!
