MG MGA - Shelley Jack Values

I thought I would try to enhance the Shelley Jack page on my web site with some 'Ebay' typical prices paid where known.

http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/shelley_jacks.htm

It will be interesting (to me at least) to see the spread of prices.

I am expecting James and Gordon to be my biggest contributors!

If you don't want to tell everyone publicly what you were stung for, then email me: Stephen.gyles at virgin dot net. I promise I won't tell anyone.

I paid CHF 15 or $15 US (GBP 7.50) for mine including the handle.

Hi Steve thank you for your concern over my "tarnished" reputation lol, but I never really got into the jacks...... but know I think about it lol

oops posted twice

There was I thinking that I had 4 responses with values and 3 of the posts were from Gordon saying he had never bought one!!

I don't believe you Gordon. I saw some of your bidding!! You must have stacks of them, enough to jack up a transporter full of MGAs and Frogeyes.

Was that the 225? If so, you got a good bargain.

Hi Steve sorry about all the posts the site is playing up for me so I don't think it's working so I do it again then it works, I might have bid a lot but I never won a correct jack but I did win a couple that were never MGA kit, thats before I had the expertise from yourself lol, I did buy a new one from Moss which looks pretty good to me , even marked up as King Dick was about£200 from memory

"into Jacks" - is that like the cowboy who wears his chaps back to front?
LOL, Peter.

Steve,
Good idea, but you may also wish to add the approximate date of purchase, so we can see any price increases as time goes by.

Hi Peter I knew that phrase was a mistake when I wrote it lol

Can anyone identify this one? The box says "AHH 5986" It looks like the MGA jack on Steve's link, but it has a raised ring around handle socket. The number cast on top is "CA311" and '"CA256" and "BH" on the base. I was hoping I might some day be able to trade this NOS jack for one appropriate for my 1958 MGA, but I supposed it would help to know who I should be hitting up for a trade. :-)

David

Most interesting. I would guess that the ring was for extra strength. Does the wording on the body have LJ225? Can you email me a couple more photos for my website?

As you still have the original box do you also have the handle? Probably worth quite a bit with the original packing.

Hi, Steve -

I'm just about to head out the door on a trip on which I'll be gone for a week. If you can send me your email address to my yahoo address, I'll take and email you some better-than-cellphone quality pictures when I get back. Yes, it does say LJ225 on the opposite side of the base. It does not have the handle.

David, Don't be sucked in by our resident "Jack Expert" and beware of the dreaded "Tool Hoarder -Pugh". Evil? Springs to mind! Beware!!
Informatively yours, Barry

Harsh Barry very harsh

It's okay Gordon, I can vouch for Barry - he's a good egg, even though he comes from down under!

I don't claim to be a Shelley Jack expert yet. Still compiling all the evidence.

All information gratefully received.

Ooops! Steve, I just logged in to check my email from here in Germany and deleted a bunch of messages, but I wasn't looking for yours so if you sent it, I don't have it anymore. :-( Please re-sent it (maybe put "Don't delete this, you jet-lagged dummy" in the subject line) and I'll send you some good pictures when I get home.

A Shelley A6 jack, complete with handles has just sold for £293 ($580 ish). It was apparently supplied with the PA/PB/TA/TB. Some of these more rare Shelley jacks seem to be the new gold.

Dave, just come back from holiday. Will be in touch.

A Shelley LJ225 (MGA MKII) just sold on UK Ebay for £132 ($260). It appears to have been won by a Jaguar version of our Gordon. I thought the E-Type Shelley had a cube top compared to the L shape on the MGA.
