MG MGA - slide show
I am not very good with computers, but I want to make a slide show with some MGA pictures. The programmes I have will work for the pictures, but I want to add appropriate music to the slide show. What packages/programmes are available, that are easy to use? Thanks, and compliments of the season to you all.

Sorry I can't help you Nigel. Good luck.

Nigel, There are a number of ways you could add music to a slide show. Much will depend on how much time and effort you want to put into the project. Since every slide show computer program handles things like transitions and music tracks differently, I cannot point out the easiest way to get the job done. Try starting with the slide show programs you have at hand. Start the program, then go the “Help” menu and search for “insert music”. Hopefully you will be able to figure out if any of your programs have a music track capability. I know that Microsoft PowerPoint has the capability to automate a slide show with a music track or tracks. Some photo editing programs, particularly those that are bundled with digital cameras, may also have a slide show/music track capability. Lastly, video editing programs usually have a slide show capability with sound. These programs are the most expensive and have a much steeper learning curve. Feel free to send me an email if you have a specific question. John

Nigel What programme are you using? If you are using a PC then powerpoint will work. Magic DVD is a lot easier if you have a MAC. Kris

On a Mac you just use iPhoto and select your music for the slideshow, no need for third party programmes If you are using a PC at home, sympathy is the only thing I can offer....

Mac and PC slide shows work basically the same way, just with a different interface. The viewer displays images with transistions while the native media player works in the background to play the music. Depending on which system you use (Mac or PC) it should be very simple to do, and a Google search will give you the instructions specific to your system. If you have Windows Media Center Edition, it's even easier. If you need a standalone slide show which can be played on any computer from a CD, Microsoft Powerpoint is the most common. Powerpoint presentations can be played on any computer with the free viewer from Microsoft. If you need a web-based show, the latest trend is using Adobe Flash. However this requires special software which doesn't come with any operating systems. You can also make video CDs using just about any CD burning software. Consult the instructions for your specific software. Let us know exactly what you have (operating system, installed software, etc) and someone will surely have the answers you need.

Nigel, If you are using Windows on a PC and need a copy of 'Power Point' let me know as I have an old copy of MS office which includes Power point you can have. As suggested it is quite easy to do a slide show in Powerpoint although you need to get the slides onto the computer first which is not always as simple as it sounds. Once you get everything sortted you can make the slides fade into one another as well, which makes for a more pleasant AV show. Regards...John

Thanks for your contributions. I have Windows XP, and have the following programmes, most of which I don't use, or know where they came from!! I do have Powerpoint, and think I will use that, providing I can add music. I also have ; Fuji & Minolta programmes that came with our cameras, FX photo (basic) Widows Media, AC/DC Lizard Tech and Windows Movie Maker, all of which can do slide shows, I think, if only I knew how. I think it will be Powerpoint.

Powerpoint and Windows Movie Maker are both good choices, depending on the level of complexity you need for the slide show. Powerpoint may produce a smaller file which would make it easier to email or transport.

Then save as a slideshow in powerpoint to keep your settings and let it run automatically when opened

Nigel Yes you can add music to a powerpoint presentation as well as text to each slide if you wish or do a seperate slide for each group of pictures. A bit of a learning curve like everything else but not too difficult if you use the help files and type in your question. Kris

Hi Nigel, The easiest way to combine pictures and music is to download Photostory 3 for Windows, from Microsoft. It is a free download and very easy to use. The step by step instructions are in plain english. Good luck! Phillip
