MG MGA - Speedo

I promise this will be my last instrument question.....for a little while.

I'm also working on my speedo. I had a problem with the trip odometer. It come down to this.

Where you raise up the long post to reset the trip it has a flat top that in turn lifts a brass arm. Just at the top of the internal frame there is an angled bracket that is not attached, it just sets there. If you raise the reset post just right it works just fine.

That is the picture below.

If you have any angle to the post at all it carries that bracket up, which then twists and screws things up. However it almost appears that it is intended to be able to be lift it. See the picture posted in the second half.

So what's the deal?

Part II. Here is the pic with the bracket caught up and lifted off.

Here is a good pdf about repairing the speedo. If you look at figure 17 about halfway through the document, it shows that piece between the spring and the fixed steel bracket. Looks like you just have it assembled on the wrong side of the fixed bracket.

Excellent!

Thanks Jeff.

Darn DPO, can't live with 'em can't live without them

That is a very good article on repair of speedometers in general, but does not cover the model used in MGA. It could give you enough information to steer you in the right direction for your own repair.
