MG MGA - Speedo

How do you get the speedo out of the can? I got the odo reset knob off, but it does not push in all the way.
Art Pearse

Isn't the reset knob attached to a small shaft which is held on with a 1/16" roll pin? Remove the pin, shaft and knob first........................Mike

Mike, the knob is attached to the shaft with a tiny screw. I got it off OK, but the shaft does not retract enough into the case. About 1/4" left to go!
Art Pearse

Angle it out with gentle persuasion.
Chuck Schaefer

Tried that Chuck. May have to be not so gentle. Acually, all I need to do is clean up the visible area of the can (about 1 cm all round, and paint that. Maybe just get the Dremel out.
Art Pearse

Chuck, In my experience you have to distort (carefully) the can slightly. Worrying, but it's the only way.
Barry.
Barry Gannon

OK, got it painted.
Now the glass is loose when assembled.
I have the dish shaped ring, then the glass, then the chrome bezel with a 1/16 O riskets?

Should there be some more O rings or gaskets inside?
Art Pearse

On some of the instruments there is a gasket/O-ring that goes into the bezel, and against the glass....
Nisonger and some of the other instrument places sells the gaskets....They are a pain to keep in place when you make the "sandwich".
