MG MGA - steering wheel covers?

Like many of us I’m sure, I have replaced the original steering wheel with a smaller 15” wood rim steering wheel, the problem I have is that just like the original one it feels a bit thin. I definitely don’t want to replace this with anything that looks modern but I would like to thicken up the grip to make it feel more comfortable, I’m hoping that someone out there has had the same feeling and if you have what if anything did you do about it, I hope you can make sense of my ramblings, Cheers,

Vin,
I bought one from the supplier Siggi has tagged and put it on my Series 2 Land Rover, which has the same size steering wheel as the A. it is excellent and easy to fit. If you have a smaller wheel you will need a different size. Some suppliers charge over twice the price; I found the quality of this one more than acceptable.

Another vote for "Mr Steering". I put one of his covers on a friend's Morris Minor and was so impressed I decided to fit one to all my classics (eventually). There are some installation videos on youtube if you can stand the "music"

Why not just wear kid leather racing gloves? I still have a pair or two of my flying gloves, they give all the feel you really need. Sorry, not a fan of steering wheel covers.

Golf cloves are also fine...

Vin,I too fitted a "Mr Steering" glove almost two years ago (ask Colyn Firth!) and I am very pleased with it. http://tinyurl.com/d4dvhel
Lindsay Sampford

I have tried very hard not to drawn in to this post Lindsay as the last time I asked the question "Why do some of you MGA owners seem to have a thing about running their hands over leather clad curves?" it appeared to be taken out of context.

The other reason I decided to keep out of the discussion is that I have suddenly realised that the Moto-lita steering wheel on my car is also leather covered!

Oops!

Best for me to say nothing!

Well i took the advise of the forum and went with mr steering, made my order and included a note on the size required and it arrived two days later, it fits just like it sould and im very pleased with it, its not as pretty looking as the wood rim underneath but it feels better in the hand

A proper steering wheel (same vintage as the MGA) and kid leather flying gloves (well worn) for that right feel.

Seriously though, I find those gloves excellent. Very thin, excellent grip, fine feel for the switches; far better than anything I have seen on the market these days. When we did sqn exchanges with the USAF we always took 'trading' items with us and the RAF flying gloves were always the most sought after item. Forget your steering wheel covers, get a decent pair of gloves.
