MG MGA - Supercharger

How would this go?

Novel. I presume you need 2 - one for each carburettor?

If you have one for each carb, would you need a crossover pipe to equalize intake pressure?
Mike Parker

I cannot see how it would work for SU's or most carburettors. These rely on air being drawn (vacuum), not pushed, through the carburettor for correct mixture.
Have never seen a supercharger in front of the carburettor.
I could only see it working on a fuel injected engine with a Lambda sensor feedback system. In that case the fuel is adjusted continuously, based on the oxygen content of the exhaust gas.

Someone's idea of a joke or a scam? You cannot pressurize air intake in front of an SU carburetor. If you do that it would stop fuel flow in the main jet.

Also a 5-amp fuse? Limited to 4-amps to avoid blowing the fuse, it would be about as effective as the heater blower. Can't be much of a supercharger. Maybe it is supposed to serve as a cool air intake, but no way it could provide 20% power boost.

Like PT Barnum said:

Realistically it is a scam and a joke. Sad thing is some idiot will buy it. When things get rough even HOPE will sell.
R J Brown

51 happy customers, 1 negative and 1 neutral. Some of them reporting a noticable gain in performance. It sort of makes me question the eBay rating system. (Insert tongue-in-cheek emoticon here)
Chuck Schaefer

I think that it's all a mistake by the seller..he punched in all the available MG vehicle words on Ebay, really meaning it to apply to all the later modern fuel injected ones. he has these units for sale for all the Z's.
Gary Lock

The Ebay feedback rating system can be misused.
Obtain 20 email addresses for yourself from a free provider (Hotmail, Yahoo etc...).
Then get 20 Ebay ID's.
Sell 20 fictional items, each one being bought by one of your own Ebay ID's, using the "buy it now" function.
Send positive feedback from each of your 20 "buyers".
You now have a 100 percent record for 20 transactions.

I have never done this, but just a warning.

Mick, wouldn't you need 20 credit cards with 20 different names and addresses on to open the eBay accounts? Not saying it the system cannot be abused, but is it so easy?

It would also be very suspicious if all buyers had zero (or very low) feedback.
Neil McGurk

Neil,

I think you are confusing Ebay with a Paypal account where you do need an address and Credit Card.
Buyers and sellers can make their own "payment" arrangement, unrecorded (e.g. cash).
My Ebay account has only an email address, that is all that was supplied.
The buyers can all be given one feedback, but it is the seller which you are creating with multiple feedback.
It is possible to trace back to each buyer to look at their feedback, but who bothers to do it, and what would it tell you anyway?. Buyers often only make one purchase.

M F Anderson

This seller lists his "supercharger" on over 170 separate Ebay listings.
Just search his title without the word MGA.
This is legal, just interesting.

Those ads attempt to take advantage of morons, who predictably are able to find all sorts of benefit once they receive the useless parts, becasue if they didn't, well they'd be morons, wouldn't they?

Bill Spohn

This guy is doing his best to explain to the morons:
