MG MGA - Sutty Pump

I have just picked up a very nice Sutty pump on Ebay. It has the original braided hose with screw connector in close to excellent condition, bearing in mind its age. It was poorly advertised so most MGA trackers probably missed it. I was the only bidder and got it for £7.

The only bit missing is the nut that holds the handle to the shaft. I have hundreds of nuts in long term storage that I would normally try for size, so it is galling to have to buy a 'one off'. Can anyone tell me the thread size?

Steve, It's 1/4" Whitworth - 20tpi on mine, probably half, or thereabouts, a full nut thickness ................................Mike

Thanks Mike. See if I can find a supplier for one nut!

I always thought sutty was the Indian practice whereby the ole missus got up on the funeral pyre and got burnt to death with hubby who was being creamted. So,not a lot of difference then trying to entice the old bat into an MGA with dodgy carbs, fuel filter ,pump etc.

OK, I'll bite...what the heck is a Sutty pump?

It is the tyre pump for the MGA. At the base end of the barrel is cast the maker's name: SUTTY
