MG MGA - This bbs search facility - help

So - as we are in the process of moving house (subject to contract!) and sadly about to lose my beloved Mech-Mate fibreglass lined pit, I decided to try to re-visit a previous thread which some time ago discussed scissor lifts, (Steve Giles and others I recall), as an alternative for the new garage. Could someone direct me to make the search facility work? It has never been a success whenever I have tried to use it - for example, “scissor lift” search returns “carburettor overflowing”!!! Where is the logic in that?
Anyone help me with the specific search and the general info on the search facility?
Bruce.

I just had a very quick look for "Scissor lifts" using the search function and it did bring up Steves posts about his scissor lifts and a few more.

You have to be logged in to the website and look into the Archive
Then look at the mga part of the archive section and input the words "Scissor lift" into the search box but you need to tick the "This phrase" box. (If you dont do this you will have to look through 1000s of posts to find what you want)

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Colyn
PS if you have the space and the height you can buy a proper electric powered hydraulic 2-post lift for the same money as a scissor lift will cost. I am lookingh to fit one in my garage next winter.

I just saw this one on ebay

Thanks Colin. I thought I had done as you described but maybe not “this phrase”. Will check it out.

When you find the archive stuff don't buy the one I have. Mike Ellesmere has a much better type. Don't know if they are available here.

These are very popular with local MGA owners (more than 10 I know have them). Suit low ceiling height garages.

Another lift that is gaining in popularity here is this low profile two poster.

Bruce, if you type “scissor hoist” into the Archives search box and tick “this phrase” my previous posts about this hoist will come up.

Thanks all. I suppose I will try Dominic’s advice first before laying out big cash on a lift. It’s just been so good having a pit to-date!
