MG MGA - tonneau cover

Hello
Tomorrow morning I am taking delivery of a 1959 MGA. It had a body off restoration about 1000 miles ago but lacks a tonneau cover. The interior is red so I will be looking for a red cover. What I am confused about is that as I look at the ads it refers to a short, long or extra long tonneau. What I do not want to do is drill any holes in the body --- can someone enlighten me as to what the differences are?

Russ,
Here's a link to Barney's website relating to the different tonneau sizes. http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/top/top100b.htm

Russ,
Couple of things. The color of the fabric is different depending where you get the material. For example Moss's material is more red than the original maroon that came from the factory. Whereas Scarborough Faire's is more like the original. So you might get a sample to match up before you buy a cover. Using a short or long tonneau provides a different look. I have a couple of photos's from the NAMGAR Asheville event several years ago. for some reason I can't upload the pictures. If you send me an e-mail jjb4264@comcast.net I will send you the pictures.

Russ, the holes are already in the body for tonneau studs.

Original red interior was bright cheery red. Many of the current replacement kits are far too dark red.

Tonneau cover was an option, so not all MGA have the studs. Short tonneau cover pins to the rear cockpit rail (usually dealer installed). Long tonneau cover pins to studs on body just aft of the rear cockpit rail (most common type, and factory issue if ordered). Extra long tonneau cover was an aftermarket part, and it hooks onto the tear drop lugs that secure the rear rail of the convertible top.

If you ask for one that uses the same fixings as the roof you will get what you need.

Barney is right about the colour. I have original seat covers and they are a really bright red - at least when they have been cleaned!
