MG MGA - Trunk / Boot seal
Who is doing a good boot / trunk seal these days? The old one I have is too tall and makes the lid sit too high.
dominic clancy
Hi Dominic.Martin MacGregor in Canada has the goods. He is a bit slow on replying to emails, but the product is worth the wait.
Gary Lock
DC Most of the usual suppliers appear to use a similar source, and the seal lacks the spring factor to release the boot. I finally found Bob West had the most suitable. Regards...John

Dominic, The best way to deal with it is to take a real good sharp pair of scissors and cut it down. Put the cut side down. Cut it so it is about 1/8" above the metal lip. I then took a good quality black silicon glue and applied at begining and end of each corrner and a small bit in the middle of the straight with a slight more at the bottom were the two ends meet.Do not strech or glue the whole thing. gently place it in the adhesive. Remember you do not want to be using the seal as a "bumper" for the lid, it justs needs to tuch it to seal.

MacGregor makes the right seal. It is the same size as others, but it is the right density and allows the boot lid to fit properly.

I agree with Ed. Go for the right density and not just shape. I had 3 seals before I got one that worked. I got it off a stand at Silverstone and can't remember the supplier (it was 10+ years ago!!). It is quite soft and easily squashes down to give a good seal without a lot of force. Neil

I bought a MacGregor boot seal a few weeks ago, not yet fitted. It is fairly soft and spongy but is also partially hollow. Can anyone else confirm that their MacGregor seal is also partially hollow? I don't think original BMC ones were. Comments? Garry

I bought a boot seal from McGregor. It is hollow. I found that it was a bit too wide for the upper boot channel and it got squashed and spread out of the channel. I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. In the meantime I've put the old seal back in.

| I got the MacGregor seal with a box of parts from the PO. He had not got around to putting it on. I did it a couple of months ago and it was a perfecxt fit. Right hieght and width. In cross section it has holes in it so it compresses just right. Dave

| My MacGregor boot seal has a largish single hollow section, see image. This is different to Dave's seal. Has anyone had any experience with this style? Garry

Bill, Thanks for the tip. I used a razor knife to cut the 1/8" off and it worked out pretty good. Boot now lays down nice. John
