MG MGA - Trunk Carpet - Glue down or ... ?

Hi fellas!

I continue my odyssey of putting back together my car after work and I must say it is looking pretty sharp.

I have a question regarding the Trunk carpeting. I purchased the full trunk carpet set from SF and I was wondering if I should glue it down with contact glue.
This is what I have been doing for the rest of the carpet and it works really well.
My only concern is that the day I want to take if off, for inspection / repair / drying the carpet / other it will leave that glue stuff on the trunk surface.

I was thinking if it makes sense to spend some additional time to install a temporary attachment system as an alternative, like Velcro or snaps or just lay it in the trunk without anything!

Just wanted to hear some of your thoughts as I am sure some of you have tinkered over this before...

Thanks!

Glue it down, and figure on not moving it for 20 years. That's what I do. I glued it down in 1986 after original restoration work. Repainted outside of the car again 12 years and 125,000 miles later. A couple of years ago (another 100,000 miles on) while replacing body sills and doing another body-off repaint, I finally scraped out all of the prior glued down carpet, did the repaint, and glued down new carpet in the boot. Love that carpet. It keeps things nice and quiet back there, and eliminates scuffing of paint and rust on the boot floor. Just keep a good weather seal around the boot lid.

Gonzalo, when I restored my Coupe last year, I glued the carpet to the sides of the trunk but left the bottom loose so that I could remove it if needed. I must say that when I remove it I'm amazed how much sand I still find from the sand blasting operation.

Does your trunk leak ?
Mine does a little so I left it out.

You could use two sided carpet tape - I did this in my roadster many years ago, and it is still there, but would allow you to remove the carpet if you have to down the road.

Great!

I will glue it down then and hope I don't need to remove it any time soon.

The floor of the trunk is pretty solid and I don't think there are any leaks going into the trunk.

Lets see if I can finish the car this weekend and polish it all.
I will send the pics once completed!

Thanks once again!
