MG MGA - tudor bracket colour

Hi all I wonder if anyone has a photo of the washer bottle bracket that shows the original blue accurately

many thanks gordon

I have an original MGB bracket, but a digital photo displayed on a computer monitor will never be accurate.
Steve Simmons

Hi Steve, in some of the books it would appear to be quite a pale blue almost like Iris or Speedwell blue

My bracket is a little darker than Iris, but it's still a light blue. I believe Paul Hanley has located a modern equivalent, or something very close.

I have two NOS 1500cc style Tudor washer bottles with frames never been mounted, I will take a digital pic tomorrow in daylight of both and post them. Should give you a good idea. Peter

Just been out to look at mine and do some paint chart comparisons - I have some lovely Dulux wallcovering pastel shades! Unfortunately, nothing matches. However, the paint on my holder is flaking off, so I have in my hand a large fleck 2.5cm x 1cm. If you want it for colour matching I will post it to you in exchange for the ensuing colour coding information, or a spare Shelley Jack!

Email me with your address if you want it. My email is on my website.

I would think that the blue used in the bottle logo should be the same shade of Tudor blue used on the bracket. I matched mine with a "Royal Blue" rattle can of unknown manufacture.

Peter, When you take the photos, please photo both the bottle and bracket assembled to verify this. This should eliminate any computer or camera color variations. If this is a correct assumption, then all we have to do is match the color of the logo on the bottle.

You have mail, at least you will have in a couple of days!

As a point of interest, Clausager states that the bracket was 'usually painted blue'. There is a photo in the book showing a black bracket and Tudor logo. Were these ever fitted to the MGA?

Hi Peter many thanks for the photos exactly what I needed, matches very closely what I have in car at present courtesy of Terry Drinkwater, the twin cam is as wonderful in the flesh as in the pics

Looks identical (even on screen) to the very expensive flake of paint I have sent you.

I'll photograph both bottles later when the light improves, strangely enough, even though they are new and never used, the Tudor writing is completely different on both bottles, but both with the correct 1500cc smaller neck which will both be needed for my two restorations so no 'spares' for sale I'm afraid. Both still have the small sachet of Tudor soap/detergent additive as well which I'll include in the pics for amusements sake. The rubber bands you see in the previous pics are original and were to hold the two self tapping screws in place as the holes in the frame are bigger than the screws. As we know, the MGA used the bottom two holes on the cage, not the side holes. Cheers, Peter

I replaced ( with a stainless one) what I assumed to be the original one when I got the car - it was very rusty and I am sure it is black - I will have to dig it out from the back of the garage to check . I still haven't painted the replacement one yet - looks as though I need some blue paint if I am to get those extra concours points! cheers Cam

Couldn't edit my previous posts to say that the colour of the texting varies ever so slightly on both bottles. The pics show a front of one and a rear of the other. I had mentioned in a previous post that the texting was completely different on both bottles, this is not correct as both are identical except for the slight colour variation. The text on these two bottles is completely different to another well used 1500cc styled bottle I have. The only subtle difference on the two bottles here is the brass 'spout' portion protruding out the cap. They differ a lot, and again differ to the third used bottle, so 3 variations in total on the spout - see pic attached. Cheers, Peter

My 1500 type Tudor bottle has long since had the blue printing worn away, but the small cap has a really nice right angle brass fitting on top. See attached picture.

Hi Peter very many thanks for all the pics, I for one have not seen an original bottle with the printing on before, I wonder if you would let me have your email address to gcpugh@hotmail.com

many thanks gordon

Very nice pictures, Peter. If it has transmitted correctly the original blue is not as bright as that on the reproduction wide neck bottles which is more of a royal blue. Does anyone out there have an original later bottle they could photograph please? Thanks Mike
m.j. moore

Barney, my third bottle has the right angled brass fitting exactly like yours. Possibly there are more variants out there?
Mike, you are correct, the blue text is not as bright as the 1600cc repro bottles. It's a slightly darker and 'dirtier' blue if that makes any sense. I bought one of these years ago as no one stocks the 1500cc styled bottles. Cheers, Peter
