MG MGA - Twin Cam heater box.

I would like such box because my 1600 has a Xflow head and would help to have air inlet on the other (LH) side.Anyone seen one? Turning standard one round or over too much hassle.

Has Ashley Hinton got them for sale?

Hi Hugh

I have investigated using the twin cam heater too for a cross flow installation. The only difficulty is that the heater box hole in the bulkhead panel is in a different place on the twin cam. The heater box mounting is not symmetrical to the car centreline and the twin cam has the hole offset on the other side of the car centreline. John

Is the MGB box suitable?

Ashley Hinton have complete assy. which likely be very expensive. Impossible to know because they will only give price lists to the trade.

I don't know why they do that.

Try 'phoning. As far as I know, they are happy to supply retail customers.

Ashley was really helpful to me in 2007 when I was rebuilding my heater. He supplied several internal parts which aren't available elsewhere separately when I visited his factory. He would not supply the side plate mounting brackets but Todd Clark tooled them up and supplied me a set. Todd may still have stock of these..
I asked Ashley about a twin cam box a few years ago and I think they were about £300-£400 but can't find the email. He doesn't keep many in stock.

PS Barney's comments about the bulkhead mounting hole on the twin cam says:

"Use of the mirror image heater box for the Twin Cam car (to put the air intake hose on the left) required the rectangular aperture in the heater shelf to be moved to the right to retain centering of the overall housing of the box. Mounting bolt locations moved accordingly along with the aperture. This was a change to body metal only which did not affect the frame weldment. The heater blower then rotates in the opposite direction. The fuse box, flasher unit, and 1500 type turn signal relay are all relocated farther to the right on the bulkhead to clear the left side position of the heater blower motor. "
