MG MGA - Viton carb seals

Thinking about putting in viton jet seals into the carburetors that Moss supply instead of the cork seals but SUBurlin tell me that their viton seals come with a different jet bearing (that I assume is for a different seating). This is the first I've heard about this and there's no mention of it in archives on the subject. I think it's 2 seals per jet but has anyone come across this different jet bearing issue?

If you are talking about the "O" rings, I would suggest not doing it....
I bought the "O" rings from Moss, along with the carb rebuild kits....Once I tightened down on the jet nuts, I couldn't budge the jets....
Changed to the oil-soaked cork ones, that came with the kit, and the jets work perfectly without leaks...
I think the secret is to soak the cork seals in oil for 24 hours...Just my 2 cents.

For about 20 years I have been using Teflon O-rings, two in place of each cork seal, 8 rings required for dual carbs. As far as I know, 100% success, never any sticking or dripping, the perfect solution.

I don't think the Moss seals are Teflon...

I'm with Barney - I've been using teflon 'O' rings in our TD for about the same amount of time. They have never stuck or leaked. Not sure where Barney got his, but I get them from Tom Bryant 207-443-6338 or thosbryant@gmail.com Cheers - Dave

Also McMaster Carr in the USA (cheap by the bag full). Part number and installation details on the Gugu site.

Here in the UK these o-rings are the old BS.010 size. Recently I got these standard white PTFE o-rings with the Pt.No. OR-010-TFE off the shelf. Due to a minimum order I got 2 sets, that's 16 o-rings, for a fiver.

Pete, what supplier did you use, 4 rings per carb?
J H Cole

Yes 4 per carb and as he says, you can check out the details on Barney's site.
I got mine from the Waterlooville branch of Flowseal.
I have to admit to not having fitted these yet as I'm still managing to avoid the 95 RON ethanol rubbish so far by using the higher octane BP and Tesco's Momentum fuels. Since going to this high octane stuff the jet seals have stopped leaking so am leaving well alone for the time being.

I bought the Burlen new type seals for my TF. One large seal under the bottom nut that holds the whole thing together and replaces a wedge section cork seal - that fits with the existing parts OK. The other seals are miles too big to fit unless you fit a new slimmer jet and bearing at the same time - at that point I put a new set of cork seals in and left it at that. I tried using simple Viton O rings sold as a replacement for the cork seals previously, but they still leaked, so I suspect they were slightly undersized.

Who is this Daniel Nordstrom? Have we been bombed?

I've already contacted the webmaster asking him to deregister Mr. Nordstrom...............Mike

Like Mike I contacted the webmaster. I also started a new thread on the topic telling all of my actions. Seems the only action by the webmaster has been to delete my thread!

I have recently used the McMaster Carr teflon o rings recommended by Barney - cheap and work. I actually put 3 on the bottom of the jet just to be sure!
Interestingly MC wouldnt ship to Oz so had to use a third party ( needed a security clearance as hi tech part!)

Mike while the Russians hack our military and the Chinese hack our health care info the powers that be put their feet down on our Aussie friends who want our coveted sealing technology ;)

I assume you guys are referring to fuel leaking pass the threads of the brass jet screwed into the lid of the float chamber.
My thread 28 July, Grose jets – Flooding in MGB technical explains the problem I had both with the thread issue and the jets themselves. In short both the Grose Jets and the latest ‘SU Brand’ jets are inferior to the original jets.
As you will read the only way I could prevent the leak over-filling the float chamber was to mix and match an original (1958) jet-valve assy.
J Hughes

The float needle valve is a different issue... The teflon seals are for the main jets on the bottom of the carb bodies.
