MG MGA - wheel identity

I thought I had an MGA disc wheel until I cleaned and repainted my wire wheels prior to putting on new tires. I had left over paint so I decided to clean the disc wheel and paint it too. A friend gave this to me over 20 years ago and said it was from his MGA MkII. However, now that I've cleaned it up and was about to paint it I notices that it is a 5 lug pattern. Not MGA! So, what do I have here? Is it to a magnette? Triumph? What the heck is it?

I think I figured it out. It's an Austin Healey 3000 solid steel wheel. 5 bolt pattern, 8 oval vent holes, 3 studs for the hubcap. It took a while of googling until I found some pictures of solid wheel healeys... were they predominantly wire wheel cars?

David,

It could as easily have belonged to a pre-1969 Volvo P1800; google up some pix and you'll see this wheel was standard over the 1963-8 models. Volvo assembled the early P1800 models in West Bromwich and Coventry with many conventional British parts (e.g., Lucas electricals, Smith gauges) and a body from Jensen (who produced the Healey bodies) and Pressed Steel, Ltd., so it's quite possible that they used the same supplier for their wheels. Indeed, given that wire wheels were an aftermarket rarity among P1800s, it seems even more likely that your wheel could have been from a P1800 than a Healey.

Thanks Ken but take a look at the pic you posted and the one I posted. See the vent holes in the p1800 wheel are evenly spaced and the vent holes in the original pic are broken up in 4 sets of two? I think it is Austin Healey.

Yup, I think that you're right, David. I'll withdraw my Volvo support forthwith and enthusiastically promote the AH candidacy.
