MG MGA - Where to get a hood?

Happy New Year All!

I may have posted this a while back, but I can't find it and I'm not sure I got a fulsome answer.

My kids are getting me a new hood (top) for the car. I will also need a new wood bar.

Is there a specific manufacturer you all have had a good experience with? Or do you just go with Moss?

Thanks as always for the help!

Ive got this one in black on my car...

Fits the car nicely...took an afternoon to put on.

There are 3 different top bows...here you can do some research to find out what you need to know.

Goodluck with your car!

I bought the wooden bar for my TD from Moss a few years ago and found it satisfactory, however, it's the only one I've ever bought so I have little to compare it against. The original bar had totally rotted away so I couldn't compare to it.

I lot of the guys here in Australia recommend a USA supplier..Robbins Hoods.

I went with Moss, but it was too tight a fit at the rear
There are still small gaps at the rear of the sidescreens, despite having to cut notches into the stiffening bar to allow it to come forward a bit.
Also the roof pocket did not line up with the frane member.

Thanks for the feedback. Has anybody tried the hoods that Little British Car has made for them in the UK?

Tysen, do be careful when ordering the front wood bow as there are three versions depending on length. Additionally, all vendors have their own take on the design of the bow so it may not fit right out of the box. Take a look through a few of the pages on Barney's site to get a feel for some of the comments and issues; start at TT-107 and then flip forward a few pages:

Depending on the condition of your front bow, you may be able to restore it vs. replacing; that's what I did. There are great products on the market that can repair dry rot, cracks/holes and general wear. Since the bow is fully covered, the look is not as important as the fit.

I have a Moss top on my A and it's very nice. Good quality and fit.

I bought my new top from Moss. It is a Robbins made top, and installed perfectly. Once I got the car into the sunshine on a warm day. I can't seem to heat my shop up warm enough to tug on the vinyl effectively. So use the sun!

The front wooden header bar I was able to re-use as it was solid and no rot anywhere. I did have a chance to compare it to the header that Moss sells. They are close. The Moss header is a bit thick and does not taper smoothly to the front. Other than that the dry fit showed it fit to the frame very well. Adjusting the slope and shaping the corners to make the fit perfect should be not too much of a problem with some patience and some quality time with a belt sander.
