MG MGA - Windscreen Lower Rail

The bottom rail extrusion cross section does not seem available from new.

I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried fabricating a rail from cross sections that are available. For instance, Vintage Supplies do a channel that seems similar, but missing the right angle strip along its length.

I was wondering how difficult it would be bend the channelling to the correct profile and weld on the strip?

Probably impossible for the amateur, but I thought I would ask.

Has anyone ever contacted a supplier to find out the cost of producing an original spec profile?

Yes, I know they come up second hand and command very high prices. I am not actually short of a bottom rail at the moment. I have one on my original windscreen that I do not intend to touch. I also have one on my sportscreen. I was just mulling over the idea of making up a 3rd screen with a lower profile than my current screen and made of glass.

Obviously, it would be better to have the correct lower rail, but I was wondering if I could make something up that cost a bit less.

Have you given the Windscreen Clinic a call. I know they recon old frames but they may have a spare bottom piece - you never know.

With the price these rails are now commanding I was wondering if one of the suppliers had considered making new ones. Or maybe I am just imagining a greater demand than there actually is?

Bit like Clausager's Original MGA.

If anyone is looking for one I think I gave one to Gary Lock a couple of years ago as I did not need it for my special. As usual with my spares it was given to him for free so if you need one try him, see if he is not using it and is prepared to pass it on to someone who needs one
