MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 302 in MGB sounds like?

I have not seen an MGB with a 302 dropped in but there are plenty of Mustangs around. Some of them have that phenomenal exhaust sound and I was wondering, does it sound like that in the MGB too? I wasn't sure if the exhaust length, configuration or resonating through the body that makes it sound that way only in the Mustang. How close to that awesome sound do you guys get?

I have a rover 3.5 with a single flowmaster under the drivers seat and the car absolutely growls at people. Many car guys have said I have the best sounding car they've ever heard. It's relatively tame at idle, though it definitely burbles, but at about 2800rpm the whole system resonates and it's absolutely amazing.

It's possible to get a deep throaty sound from an B.

The items int he Exh are more important than the length. Yes the Short Exh can make it louder and stronger sounding, but the Headers, tube size and mufflers , Cat's, cross-over etc are what makes the Exh sound a certain way.

FLowmasters are the way to go and PROBABLY what you heard ont he Mustangs you liked.

A TVR with a Ford 302 showed up at a local British car show a few years ago, running Flowmasters. That's when I decided I had to have a Ford 302 in my TR6. I heard him pull in the lot, and I was hooked! What a sound!

Dana,

I have dual Flowmasters on my 302 powered B. They sound totally awesome.
I also have some in car action (Grattan Race track and Autocross)taken at the last V8 meet in Grand Rapids.
Once I can copy the DVD, I will arrange for it to be accessible on-line.

Cheers

I have a single exhaust on my B with a 302 and am told that the sound is great. I have never actually heard it outside the car -but from inside its also great.
I am sure a dual setup woul be even better.
Dana --if youre going to ba at Stowe I will be there all 3 days as will Dale Spooner on Sat --so come on by and hear some awesome 302 sounds.

I have an MGC GT with a 1995 302 (converted to carburetor)HO engine. It has an entirely fabricated stainless steel 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust using Borla stainless straight through mufflers and I ran twin pipes to the rear by crossing the RH one in front of the diff. and having the two exit in the standard position. I put a 2 1/2" crossover in front of the mufflers and the the exhaust note is just like a Mustang with less V8 pounding and more of a warble. Sounds quite nice without being noisy (at low speeds anyway!). I think the crossover is the essential ingredient (apart from the actual muffler) to the particular sound of the Mustang. Apparently it will do good things for power and economy as well so might be worth considering.
