MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 3800 V6 in a 77MGB

ok, i am looking to do this conversion. i have the engine sitting in my garage, and have already pulled the old I4 out of the B. i am looking for any advice that is offered. some of my questions are regarding the motor mounts. What engine mounts do i need to get to mount this bad boy up. I also have a question regarding the electrical system. Will all of my electrical components connect through the onboard computer? how do i figure out which wires are what? and also i was told that with out the key to the original Camaro that the engine came out of, the fuel injectors will not work due to a chip that is in the key. this chip sends a certain resistance to the computer telling it to turn on the injectors. is there a way to get around this? any advice will be greatly appreciated. i will check this post, or you can e-mail me at gargol24@hotmail.com, or you can get me with my AIM screenname OLDS8998.
thank you,
matt

Matt, There aren't to many conversion components available for the 3.8 engine as applied to the 3.8 engine. This is due to the fact that it is so near to the V8 applications that most DIY'ers will resort to installing a Buick V8 or a 3.1 or 3.4 General Motors engine because of the easily obtainable conversion parts components. You will still get some advice on the installation on these pages for the 3.8 though.

The best power to weight you can hope to achieve in a small stock V6 will be with the 3.4 front wheel drive alloy head 60° engine. You can expect 200+ HP with a good intake and exhaust system. There are complete kits available to install a very late model 3.4 engine in your car. Go to BRITISH CAR CONVERSIONS/Killer Bee V6 Conversions for more information. You can email for more information atKillerbv6.com.

The 3800 engine from the GM F series cars is an easy fit in the MGB because it is similar in design to the aluminum Buick/Rover engine but more modern and shorter. Don Ziegler of San Jacinto, Ca. did a really clean installation using the fuel injection. He ended up using a catalytic converter rather than faking out the chip with a resistor. I'm not sure what carb intake manifolds are available, maybe a stage 2 from GM?

Check out some of the Fiero conversion pages. The 3800 is a popular choice.

Don,

Sorry about misspelling your last name and moving you 25 miles west. How goes?

don, what engine mounts did you use to put the 3800 in your MG?
Matt Gargol

I fabricated mounts attached to the crossmember. Are you doing the fabrication yourself ? Because of clearance problems I removed the power steering pump and AC compressor and replaced them with idler pulleys.
Don Zeigler

i don't know if i'll be making the mounts myself. this car is my dads project, but he has me doing most of the research. my dad said he might pay to have someone fabricate the mounts for him. i'm thinking that mounting it in there won't be that hard, its all of the electrical stuff afterward that is going to be the real pain. also, the drive train we are using has an automatic transmission from a 2000 Camaro.

I have a 65 B w/3.8 V6 T5 5 speed. only problem I have it the height. carb got too high, no way around it that I could work out.
nasty gash. requires as un-nasty a cowl/scoop as I can develop. rear open is the plan.
