MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 440HP sipercharged Cadillac Northstar

Check out page 108 of the latest issue of Hot Rod magazine. For 2006, Cadillac will offer a supercharged, variable cam timing, RWD DOHC 4.4L V8. Worth taking a look at. Hot Rod says the engine's shipping weight will be 506.4 pds, no data on size.

The new Range Rovers have an option of supercharged V8's. Is is the same engine?Thinks "bolt on supercharger for my car, oh yeah"

Range Rovers use the Jaguar engine

Dan-

Being a DOHC motor, I'd recon the same problems as with the 4.6 Ford

The Northstar motor is not the same as a Modular Ford DOHC V8. The Northstar has been around for much longer than the Ford. The other thing is the Range Rover uses a BMW motor, not a Jag motor. BMW owned Rover up until a couple of years ago so Land Rover/ Range Rover kept the design since it is far superior to anything they could come up with.

LOL you're serious Jarrod? LOL again. Rover (Ford) held onto the BMW motors because they had a contract and Ford couldn't back out of it. The new Rover uses the jag V8 and even has a supercharged version of it too. Ford would be CRAZY to keep using the BMW 4.4 when they already make a 400hp motor for the Jags. Why pay BMW for motors when they can just crank up production of their own stuff? (Which they did.)

Jarrod-

I didn't say the Northstar was the same as the 4.6- I said it was a dohc, and that the problems one had with the swapping the Northstart would most probably be the same as those encountered trying to swap the 4.6, (inferring), the width of the motor.

No, whats really funny is you need to check out the website for Land Rover. What do they spec on their new Range Rover and the LR3? A 4.4 litre V8. Hmmmm, thats odd. What Ford, or Jag for that reason, displaces that? I cant think of one. Click on the picture and what do you see...A motor that looks suspiciously like a BMW 90 degree 4.4 litre V8.

I like ford as much as the next guy but BMW has a better DOHC V8 than Fomocos modular V8. BMW can make the same horsepower that the modular fomoco v8 can but without the need for a supercharger. If you want to see a V8 that might make for a good B swap, check out the V8 used in the Volvo suv. 60 degree, designed and built by Yamaha and 315 hp.

Here's what Edmunds.com has to say about it:

"The end result is a pair of Jaguar V8s (a 4.4-liter with 305 hp and 325 pound-feet of torque and our subject's 4.2-liter mill that boasts 400 hp and 420 lb-ft) now assigned Range Rover duty."

Lest we not make fools of ourselves:

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=19&article_id=9392

the short version:

"Ford was happy to inherit the German idea of the perfect car for an English gentleman but not so pleased by the ongoing commitment to purchase most of its expensive parts—the engines, for one—from BMW."

and

"So the 2006 Range Rover has a 4.4-liter Jaguar engine developing 302 horsepower, 20 more than the 4.4-liter BMW V-8 it replaces. And there's a new top model with a 4.2-liter supercharged V-8 adapted from the engine in the Jaguar S-type R and XJR, which puts out 390 horsepower and makes this the fastest-ever production Range Rover. Gasoline models both get ZF's 6HP26 six-speed automatic transmission; a five-speed was standard previously."

"God gave me 2 ears, 2 eyes, and 1 mouth, and I use them in that order"

FYI the V8 Jag is a Ford Block, crank, rods and pistons
Jag spec cam and jag design heads. I am not sure of the mounting bosses on the block.
Bill Guzman

Bill,
While the Jag V6 may be a Ford block, I do not belive the V8 is. The Jag V6 is Duratec based but what do you belive the V8 is based on Bill, the 4.6?

Ill conceed. The 06 Rover will have the Ford motor. I though we were talking about the current models motor, not the model yet to be released.

Anyway, its too bad that a high horsepower caddy wont help GM any. Within 5 yrs, if GM doesnt change its current path, theyll be pretty close to gone.
