MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - 6 speed on a Buick 215

Has anyone done this if so please post details on what you had to do for this trans (6 speed out of a GM car) and engine (Buick or Rover 215 engine) combo to work.
Thanks.

Have you spoken to Quaife? They make some great gearboxes, though not cheap! They can probably set you up with a sequential if you've got $9k to drop.
Otherwise, I've not heard of this being done.

Who would wand a 9K trans in a MG? I would hope that trans is air shifted for that much money.

Borg Warner T56 6 speed box behind a 215.... I know this has been done before, but last I looked, those 6 speed boxes were hella expensive.

Talk to Glen Towery.

I must agree that a $9k tranny would be a little out of place in an MG, but then again there are a few people putting them in Caterhams and Lotus 7 replicas. Though these cars may have a higher market value than the average MGB, I didn't buy an MGB based on its resale value anyway. We have roll up windows and a real trunk!

You can get a new T56 box for around 2500 bucks. THey are dimensionally bigger so I believe some mods to the body work have to be done and I believe that the shifter location is different also. You can try to find one used but the places that do have them have pretty long waiting lists. I was thinking about using the T56 also but was turned off by the price.

The car is too light to need a 6 speed. You will never really need 6th,the overdrive is very steep,5th will be enough.I drove Glen Towery's 4.6 w/T-56 and felt it was not needed.A 215/3.9 with a T-5 is my favorite combo.

Quaife products are superb, but in front engine rear drive set ups that are associated with the Lotus and Caterham field then this is based on the 4 pot Sierra Type 9 gearbox which isn't the ideal choice for V8 torque. Caterhams own 6 speed follows similar lines and incidentally is very low geared to go with the ultra high revving K series 4 pot.

Hey where do you get the T-5 Adaptor for a 215 type engine?
The G

A few people have put the T-56 behind 215/Rovers and been happy with it. Dan Lagrou at D & D Fabrications (810)798-2491 builds the adapter bellhousings.

Glen Towery has a 6 speed GM behind a 4.6 in one of his GTs. Think he runs 411 gears.
