MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - A turbo 302

Since the finders need hole to place a SBF-302 engine in an MG. Is their enough room to run the headers forward to run a single turbo on the drivers side?
William

Anything can fit but good luck running the car for more than a few minutes if the temps reach 80*f.

Turbos (even shielded ones) produce large amounts of heat, that is the big drawback. Other thing would be keeping tires on the car HEH!! my 302 motor only will roast em all day long..

Hey Larry, have you thought about darg radial for you car once you upgrade the rear end.

William,

I am not too sure about the 302, as i have a 305 small block in my car. However, things are extremely tight. Even with running the headers forward, you're just going to run into more tightness. Also, a problem with the larger v8s is that they block the air passing through the engine bay, making the overheating even worse. Adding a turbo would definately inhibit the airflow even more. If you check this link, you can see a number of good pics of well done 302 conversions. Too me, it seems like the addition of a turbo would be very difficult. http://britishv8.org/swaps/examples.htm But, dont get me wrong, i'd love to see it done, and would definately lust after the car.

G,
I have loosely considered it, trick is finding a tire to fit under the car. I have already spec'd that a set of 205's will fit under the car. I plan on using those. I then have a set of 13" wheels that I hope to find a set of import drag slicks to slap on.. though I don't think I will neee it. The Posi, and tires will get me close to 12.99 then add in the stronger cam I am installing. @ 12.99 I have to have a full cage, which I will not do, so my drag racing will end..

I will probably focus in 1/2 track racing till I get that 1st half of track really dialed.. the last half is only changing maybe 1 gear and holding on, so once I get 1.2 track dialed then I can give it a shot at full track and probably dip well below the 12.99 mark for one run then slow her down so as not to get booted....

I don't believe you need the cage till you are into the 10's and I think you only need a 6 point roll bar when in the 11's, but I could be wrong.
You can always get that one run in without anything before they ban you.

Convertibles are way different than sedans/coupes. I have to wear a helmet at all time regardless of speed. and it has been made quite clear I have to have a bar or maybe even a cage to hit 12.99

Whenever I go up (not that often) I will just make hard runs to 1/2 track till I get dialed in then make a full run and see where I am. Then I can slow back down and just enjoy spanking people the rest of the night heh

I am being told I will have 365hp at the crank with the new set-up, should be interesting.
