MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Autometer guages on the stock location?

Will they work has anyone done this? Any pictures?
The G

Gosh, The G, I think the stock Smiths gauges are so much cooler ... and if you can get a set with a 140mph speedo and a factory V8 tach so much cooler still. Anyhow, the ease with which you can use other guages depends what year the car is -- 80mm guages are an oddball size (might wanna go to VDO) but the later 100mm is very easy to approximate with a 4-inch unit.

G, the SMALL sotck guages on 77 and later cars are 2 1/16" which is a standard size. I have a Autometer Sport-Comp A/F Guage on the way now. I will let you know how it looks in the dash.. I will probably get thier 3 3/3" speedo and tach and make some sort of reducer to install them..

Thanks. I was thinking of going with the carbon fiber ones.

http://www.greengauges.com/ offer custom gauges in sizes that fit the different MGB dashboards. The company that makes them are also the current owners of SMITHS Instruments.

I am not affiliated with this company, I just like the products they offer.

Looked at those they are kind of neat. I like some of the Autometer ones better. However I will keep those in mind. Thanks

Sport Comp guage looks GREAT in the dash. I think the Carbon would also, if available in the correct sizes.

The Speedo and Tach are smaller than the stock gauges. I'll be making a aluminum ring to make up the difference.

I have a full set of vdo cockpit series white faced gauges sitting at home and they fit right in without too much problem. Vdo DOES offer the cockpit series gauges in 4" tach and speedo, and all the other gauges in the standard small mgb size. (2 1/16"?)

This is relevant for anyone using an electronic speedo:

VDO makes a sender that converts a cablen driven tach signal into an electronic pulse via a GM hall effect sensor. (vdo part number 340-011) That sender costs around 70.00 and I paid $15.00 to have a triumph tr7 5 speed speedo cable modified to screw into that unit. (7/8 - 18 male thread with a female speedo cable end) This allows you to use an electronic speedo and have it work accurately w/o changing the gears in the transmission.

Hope this helps someone,
Justin

My only problem, (besides everyone using them) was that I could not find a Air/Fuel ration guage from them which seems very odd. I am going to go for Autometer Sport Comp set one by one..
