MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Conversion Questions From 'Git' to 'Go'

Am just beginning V8 conversion & have lots of questions...will take them one at a time, however, for some background info: I have a '77 MGB bodyshell stripped of everything that will get in way of modifications (I mean, it looks like a new Heritage unit)...have a Rover 3.9 w/twin SU HIF6's & Rover 5-speed...am grafting a '67 MGB dash into bodyshell (did it before to a GT & it is beautiful)...have modified a pair of Pontiac Fiero seats w/built-in speakers so they fit original MGB seat locations...but, the first system I plan on tackling is the rear suspension: have 3:31 MGC rear gears to put in MGB tube axle...plan on using Gabriel Red Ryder slim design gas shocks & Doug Jackson panhard bar....so, with that background, here's my question: How do I lower rear height of car to chrome bumper specs? I know I have to use chrome bumper stops & check straps & have already shortened rear spring shackles by 1" (have lots more if that doesn't work). Am planning on redrilling front rear spring mount location 1" higher in body...theoretically, that should lower rear of car 1" but some enthusiasts have told me it will cause spring bind as the rear shackle rotates approximately 30 degrees rearward under load...(I don't want to use the fiberglass rear springs & have heard bad things about the shortened springs on the market)..so, how do we achieve chrome bumper rear height in a rubber bumper car...and, this is just my first question in the "git" to "go" arena...

Guys...answered part of my own question this pm..tried to attach spring w/shortened shackles...nobody else need try it 'cause it won't work!! Moving spring through complete cycle causes binding when pushed back about 15-20 degrees...guess I'll go w/shortened springs from Moss...Has anyone had good luck with them?
Anthony Barnhill

Tony, they work great, and worth the money. Some times you can not get them from Moss becouse they go out of stock.

Bill...putting your stuff together between bouts w/back problems & projects...was also thinking about using new OE springs & Moss lowering kit as that gets 1 1/4" lowering vs 1" w/springs...thoughts......tony

Anthony,
How do you get the '67 dash over a '77 steering column? I agree that the older dash was nicer looking, but I'm stuck with my shortened collapsible column and would sooner keep it just for the safety factor. If there's a fix, I'ld love to hear it.
Thanks, Angus

angus..haven't figured that out yet...last conversion I did was complete w/;67 steering to the wheel..this time, I'm not sure where up the column I'm going to stop...but, the '67 dash is going in the car even if I have to use '67 steering....will use custom wood wheel anyway....tony
